Van Der Graaf Generator is as dark as you can get it, especially Pawn Hearts, and King Crimson, but you already know them i suppose.

Yes i like Peter Hammil but the sound is a bit obsolete....If u can find a modern band that sound like Van Der Graaf with a much modern approach i'll appreciate. I love electronic toms..like Ozric Tentacles but less psychedelic and more dark Edited by Aragon - September 04 2012 at 05:53 |

Dagmähr are VDGG's modern band, but don't think they use electronic toms... http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=393 |

Try The 3rd & The Mortal's first two albums or Project Bluebook, or Rada & Ternovnik's My Love, My Sorrow. Or for something a little older maybe Dead Can Dance.

Maybe Discipline or Matthew Parmenter solo. (based on other people's posts). After listening to this song, I get a very strong Saga vibe. Edited by rushfan4 - September 04 2012 at 13:24 |

The Red Masque for a modern take on VdGG style music. And for someone looking for 80's style electronic toms I dont think you're in a position to talk about "obsolete" sound. ![]() |

I appreciate ur recomend but the bands are too complex for me. Maybe Matthew Parmenter is close to my taste.
The music should be Eletronic and Dark... a mix of Industrial or EBM Depeche Mode or Absurd Minds but much complex that meet progressive rock |

Maybe you should like Diagonal's self-titled album... I haven't listened to it for a long time, but I remember that it was absolutely dark!

Saga - Wind Him Up
I don't know much prog with synth drums, but there are pop and darkwave related stuff...
I like Openhearted by Real Life (dark romantic synth pop). Great drums.
Subsequent Pleasures by Clan of Xymox is a dark album featuring Roland TR808. One of my top 10 favourite albums..Another later song by them with nice synth drums is Jasmine & Rose, a bit inspired by Sisters of Mercy/The Mission : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyWeGsA2Iqk

Real life...is too much synthpop, but Clan ox Xymox is almost perfect....almost because it isn't progressive; i'd like the drum more complex...like 7/8. A band that use drum machine is Aragon....and some of tracks are very dark and dramatic... |

DEPECHE MODE are freakin' unbelievable. Amazing group. I grew up listening to the masters of synth and dark, ominous tones. So great. Great recommendation
