Topic: Gavin Harrison versus Marco Minnemann? Posted: September 17 2012 at 21:50 |
Both are among the greatest drummers of this generation.
Gavin is phenomenal, and can play everything from jazz, to prog metal.
Marco gives him a real run for his money, though. On Steven Wilson's solo tour, he is absolutely amazing.
I find it impossible to choose between the two of them. What do you think?

Marco was indeed great on the GfD tour, his rendition of No Part Of Me was stunning.
But............

From a simple jazz perspective and improv....I gotta go with Marco Minnemann.
Aristocrats stuff is freaking amazing........and his work with Steven Wilson live band was brilliant. My wife and I saw the tour this past April.
BTW he gave my wife one of his drum sticks.....gotta give him props for that!

Oy. Now this is tricky. Hate to do it, but giving it to Marco.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I haven't heard Gavin Harrison but if the question can even be raised then he must be flippin' awesome! Marco fit in so perfectly with so many great bands and artists! Let's review them shall we?
Necrophagist - super heavy death metal band Buddy Rich Big Band - from the Marco show Paul Gilbert - albums Burning Organ and Space ship one Lee Wanner - Kids Today and their Loud Jazz Music The Aristocrats - with Guthrie Govan on guitar Alex Machacek - Album 24 Tales and last but not least... doesn't marco have like 15 solo albums?! Plus I know for a fact that Marco plays all the other instruments on some of those albums.
I guess the good news is that if this Gavin guy compares to that then I have a lot a new great music to explore!!!

Watching You Get All Deserve on Monday I was very impressed with Marco so I have to vote for 'both are awesome'.

This is a great comparison, I think both are equally talented, just a little different stylistically.
Gavin is very clinical, precise, fully in control at all times.
Marco is a little more frenetic, exciting, looking like he is just barely pulling it off.
I love both drummers, can't pick.

They're certainly both some of the most exciting drummers to watch live.

Both are perfect, but my personal sympathy vote is for Gavin.
