Just recently, i discovered the underrated Echolyn album Mei. I could go into detail on how amazing this album is, but instead I was hoping someone could help me find albums like this masterpiece.

Maybe to make it more clear on what I'd like: The orchestra sound, calmness, epicness. Smile

I'm thinking about making one sort of similar-ish.

It will probably be a long time before it does.  One of the sub-sections is already (mostly) composed and the band is working on it, but since we're not really prog, per se (we do have progressive elements) I don't foresee my idea coming to full fruition until a few years from now.  It's similar to Mei in that it's modern symphonic prog, but more of the quirky variety like Echolyn does, and in that it's going to be made up of one album-long song.

I'm glad you liked Death By Inches.  That one is probably our favorite.  Hopefully, we should get some more videos uploaded soon.

I tried it, but it seems a bit too 'metal' for me.

I can only hope Echolyn returns to the beauty side of albums instead of  ^  this. I tried, tried, and tried again to like it, but I can't bare it.

Was 'Island' your reference track? Very little of the rest of the album is 'metal' in any way I would use the term. Especially not Speaking (In Lampblack), When Sunday Spills, Past Gravity or Locust to Bethlehem.

In fact, the album is so eclectic in certain ways I'd be surprised if you could find any label under which to dismiss the whole thing except maybe 'bluesy' which would get a good portion of the album.

Too metal?  Wha?

Mei is far heavier than the 2012 album.  I agree with the above poster.

I finally just listened to it, it's great.  I loved Island and I actually wish that Echolyn would incorporate some more of the heavier elements into their sound.  That track sounds like the music I dream of making.
