Topic: Supper's Ready Ultimate Poll! Posted: October 07 2012 at 04:49 |
I'm somewhat fascinated by the local popularity of this song, which is praised by many members even like the best Epic of the whole Prog Rock history. But who knows my views a little bit, knows that I don't share this enthusiasm. However, I would like to know, what you actually like on this, (for me) rambling patchwork of several different songs.

Oh...a partisan poll.
Well...whether you consider it a patchwork of songs or not, it is still a superb piece of music. Very emptional.

The live version is OK for me, the album version never clinched to me.

Just love it! Pure brilliance! And by the way, compared to another epic which is by many on PA also very often considered to be the ultimate Prog Epic, Supper's Ready is so much more fasinating abd gripping.

i findt it to be an exellent showcase of what can be done in rock music and pop music it combines fine elements of rock, folk, pop, even doomy metal, classical, ragtime (i dunno), but never sound like anything else but Genesis,
So yes it is a super song, but their is also other songs that is better but they are few

Did you mean "partisan" as "guerilla" or rather as "prejudiced"?

Mixed bag. The first half is mainly cool apart from some embarrasing lyrics. Second half is ok but a bit silly. Overated song. I wouldn't use this song if I was trying convert someone to 70s prog. I just don't rate it that highly and I don't rate Gabriel that much either

I like it. Along with the Knife it's my favourite pre-SEBTP Genesis song, that's where they got more interesting to me as a whole.

A good song. But far from being an essential masterpiece where every second is a bliss. Not even in my top 10 of epics, but it is quite good. 3.5 stars rating.

I adore Supper's Ready and I cannot see it as a 'Rambling Patchwork of different songs' I never saw it as that the first time I heard it and even after reading stuff about the way it came about hasn't changed my opinion. It is so much more than that. Hits several spots.

While I'd avoid recommending it to anyone, I'd regard it as one of the best epics ever. At first it was a bit weird, but it grew on me and every tune from became forever stuck in my head. Especially Willow Farm.

It's always been a favorite for me. I must admit that I prefer the live version from Second's Out better than the studio version, though the chimes at the end in the studio version are much nicer, I just enjoy the live version more. I enjoy the fact that it is many varied sections put together and for me they fit well.
This and Close to the Edge are my favorite epics.

I went for "quite decent" it has some very beautiful parts, but it doesn't give me so much emotions like it doe's to others.
For my part, I think this epic is quite overrated.

I'll say "Super!" Not my favorite epic, or even my favorite Genesis song, but it's close.

Supper's Ready, the song? Well hot diggity dog! We haven't had a poll about Genesis since the Falklands. I think it's wicked with the bass and the drums and all that crazy playing.
