 Topic: Best prog encyclopaedia/database?

Hello
I have been collecting records for quite some time and I'm having some problems with my hobby. The problem is mainly the inability to consult a really comprehensive database of records of the genre. I've been using ProGGNosis a lot (nice search features, listings by year) but today I found a record that is not listed and I wonder how complete is the database.
RateYourMusic database maybe is the most complete in any genre, but the search features are terrible and there are a lot of untagged albums...
So, are there any record collectors out there? What do you use to track down rare albums??

Well most of the time I use PA together with RYM to form some kind of opinion. As for the more exotic stuff, then I simply talk to people on here - go through threads where I know a lot of well informed folks wander, especially those who have similar tastes to mine. Between Logan and Saperlipopette! I have come across a small ocean of albums to my liking.
So to answer your question: use the different databases in a criss cross manner to get a wider picture, but to really get under the skin of whatever album, artist I strongly recommend talking to some of the music gurus around this forum. Better yet, make a recommendation thread, where you highlight your own desires and tastes.
P.S. If you by any chance are looking for Italian stuff, then go visit the Italian Prog website, although it isn't nearly as good in terms of reviews as PA (not in a heartbeat), but the cataloging is vast.

No database is so complete that you can find all the stuff you want. You'll be better with a Google Search that link you to the exact record you're looking.

Very few reviews, but I have the utmost confidence in the ratings of this site
.It's a panel of rater that can't be topped imho, even if it is a bit exclusive (but that's a insurance of undiluted ratings by the masses
Anything above 11 (out of 15) isd a sure bet
Anything above 10.5, I want to hear it

As someone who is an avid philatelist with a collection worth more than my house, I can assure you they are not all the same!!! Even the 1d red comes in hundreds of different types.
Bit listening to prog whilst working on the collection is perfection.

A quick thanks to PA....there are other sites out there but nothing as fun as the reviews and forums on this site.
If you haven't checked out George Starsolin's site, I'd highly recommend it just for a good read. The dude has reviewed hundreds of albums and has a pretty groovy outlook on music. That said, I rarely agree with him but even that's good fun.
