There are many a bearded Prog band. But which is/was the beardiest (I.E. the most bearded) of all time?
I put forward Jethro Tull circa 1971/1972. Seen here with all 5 members bearded. ![]() It is a pity that John Evan shaved his off otherwise Tull circa 1978 would have had 6...... see here .So can you beat 5 beards in the one Prog band? Visual proof needed. |

Not quite sure I can beat five, but Supertramp were equally as beardy as Tull in their pomp.

Zeppelin or Tull, definitely. However, the Beatles did pull off facial hair quite well. Same with 3/4 Pink Floyd members (Waters never really did the whole facial hair thing, dunno why because the other three pulled it off well.)

Not a bad effort from GG; Ray Schulman was a consistent spoiled sport and always was clean shaven. So here Gentle Giant circa 1975? gets 4 out of 5 I.e. 80%. We need to have 6 out of 6 or more to take the lead though. Tull circa 1971/1972 still in front.

You're right, right, you're bloody well right! Here Supertramp circa 1979 equals Tull circa1971 with 5 out of 5 bearded proggers. The battle continues! ![]() |

I was thinking DT but then I thought ... only 80% ... like GG. Anyone by any chance got a picture of John with a beard?

When Portnoy was still in the band, everyone except Myung had a beard. Mangini has a little facial hair with his sole-patch, so he just needs to grow out a little more. Myung will probably never grow a beard. He looks the same as he did in 1985. |

Even ex-Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian has become a believer in the beard (guy in the middle)

I could have provided a smaller one, then we could have played "Is that a beard?" for, like, ever. Until someone were to post the bigger one. You're welcome. ![]() |
