two very exentric 80s expereimental rock bands, who blended ether punk or funk with prog, or anything else, who have a main man, brains, Tim Smiths or Les Claypools,

who is your favourite band

Primus for me: Les Claypool is one hell of a bass player; his band covers both The Residents and Rush...and besides: his favorite movies include Dr. Strangelove, A Face in the Crowd, and There Will Be Blood...

I guess I'm one of the biggest Primus fans around here, I think they never really released a bad album. Everything by the original lineup is extremely good, and I hope they will continue on releasing more albums as they just did after 12 years of silence. I'm pretty sure The Cardiacs are gonna win this though, having a bigger fan base around here.

Primus are by no means my favourite band, but they are miles better than The Cardiacs, whose merits have absolutely and completely escaped me.

Don't really care for Primus.

Primus by far. The Cardiacs, though I really do respect and appreciate them, can be a bit much for me in terms of their experimentation. I mean, it's pretty out there stuff - excellent, but I wouldn't listen to it on a casual basis. Little Man and Sing To God are Avant-Prog milestones though - love those albums. I've grown up on Primus - one of the most infamous bands of the 90's. The Brown Album is fantastic!

Since you said Funk/Metal along with everything, I have to vote for Primus, because Cardiacs weren't a funk/metal/other things hybrid...and Primus weren't really punk in any way, so I have to vote for Cardiscs...but since I love both, I'll just go ahead and vote both. Wink

Not a huge fan of either band, but they're both good.

Sailing the Sea of Cheese was the first album I ever brought, and while my tastes have changed over the years I still like Primus.

I have only ever taken a vague interest in the Cardiacs. Tired listening through Sing to God a couple of months ago and aborted halfway through.

well its obviously Cardiacs for me.....yep i'm one of the hardcore fans who discovered them by mistake when i was 15.....then went on too see them 22 times......fortunatly i've met the guys from cardiacs ......when i met Tim i was so nervous.....considering for several years before i used to help out with bands that played in a music store i used to work in back in the early nineties...some of which i admired at the time and never have been starstruck since.....even when i met Robert Plant i wasnt starstuck.......but i do have alot of resepct for Primus.
