Topic: Traffic vs the Moody Blues vs Procol Harum Posted: October 31 2012 at 10:42 |
three bands with debutes in 67 (66 for the Moodys, but their prog debute is in 67),, which of these three pioneers of british prog is your favourite, I can't think of more prolific early bands (that is not Floyd) to be inside PA, maybe also Barcely Harvest James???,
three bands who wrote some of the rules for the development of prog in the late birht before In the Court of the Crimson King,
I know Canterburry scene also helped the early fassioning and Arthur Brown, but i will focuse on the thee early prog bands who were also very famous...

I only have one album from Traffic, one from Procol Harum and two from the Moody Blues. Based on those I like Procol Harum the best with the Moodies coming close behind. I don't like Traffic much at all.

I'm very familiar with all three bands, and for me it's the Moodies, hands down. Procol's a not-too-distant second, and Traffic is just kinda eh to me.

The Moodies, followed by Traffic, then Procul.

I like all 3, but Procol Harum are the marginal winners for me.

Moody Blues all the way for me though I love PH. Am I a chump for not being familiar with Traffic? who are they and where do I start?

You're not a cump but you should know something about Traffic. Start with 'Mr. Fantasy', then 'The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys' and then 'When the Eagle Flies' (which is quite different from the other two). Although I almost reflexively voted for the Moodies I have to say Traffic was a much more interesting band even though they didn't hang around long enough to be all they could have been.

Moodies for debut and Lost Chord. Don't listen to much of any of those bands though.

The Moody Blues, then Traffic second. Although I really love John Barleycorn Must Die and Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.

Oh, that's so difficult. Traffic or Procol: I love them both a lot. Maybe I should vote for Traffic: they never made a bad album. Oh well, I didn't hear their comeback album, but I mean from the classic era. No, I vote Procol after all: since their first 6 studio albums are pretty sensational. With Traffic I think Mr. Fantasy, Traffic and John Barleycorn are great, but I find Low Spark, Shoot Out and When The Eagle Flies good but not essential. Moodies: haven't been in the picture for me yet. I listened to Days Of Future Passed which I liked but no more than that.

Moodies, although I dig all three.
I'll say this, we're dealing with some of the best prog-related vocals straight-up with this poll.
