What a great evening... well it ended sort of early for us because Jon's parents were here.. and I got to meet them, but it sort of cut short our Roger experience.

We got to the event and found we had center front row seats. Pretty special actually until Roger would get a bit loud and the speakers would feedback right next to me. So Roger's opera (Ca Ira) is actually that.. a real opera, with tenors and sopranos and a huge symphony orchestra. Its about the French Revolution.. and the music sounded a bit like a Ken Burn's soundtrack. I'm sure if I could hear the pieces done in the correct order, they probably would sound a bit more profound, but as it was, the lyrics sounded sort of sappy. It seems Roger preferred to leave them in the French language, but that Sony Classical who is producing the album, talked him into translating it into English. We were given a sample disc, so I'll have to listen to it more closely.

It was run sort of like an Actor's Studio interview. Roger looked great, said he said that he had a great time at Live8 and as usual gave some of his political outlook while saying he wasn't there to do that.. Laughing He was also quite funny, especially since the guy asking the questions was quite droll, and Roger was very snappy on the comebacks. He had said that in the beginning, his story collaborator had asked to use some of his old melodies for the opera.. but Roger decided it needed new music. The only old melody he uses is "Pros and Cons" in the track entitled "The Letter".

But since we didn't get to stick around for the ending, I didn't get to ask my question or get Roger to sign the disc or anything else... They also didn't allow any cameras, so that bummed me out right there... but oh well, I did enjoy it.
