    Posted: November 14 2012 at 16:05
Progressive instrumentalists SCALE THE SUMMIT have set "The Migration" as the title of their new album, due in the spring of 2013 viaProsthetic Records.

A one-minute video clip featuring footage of the writing sessions for the follow-up to 2011's "The Collective" can be seen below.

Commented SCALE THE SUMMIT guitarist Chris Letchford: "We just started work on our next album. The material we have written so far is definitely pushing us into new territory.

"[I'm] very excited to see what we create!

"It's been a lot of fun writing these songs with our new bassist, Mark Michell. He is a very skilled and talented guy, so these songs will definitely be our best yet!

"[I'm looking forward to getting them all finished and recorded so we can get out there and play them live."

SCALE THE SUMMIT's third album, "The Collective", sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 39 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

The follow-up to 2009's "Carving Desert Canyons""The Collective"was recorded at Paint It Black Studios in Orlando, Florida with producerMark Lewis (DEVILDRIVERALL THAT REMAINSTHE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER).

SCALE THE SUMMIT formed in 2005 while attending the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. The band relocated to Texas in 2006, where they recorded their first, self-released album. After signing with Prosthetic, they issued "Carving Desert Canyons", which Revolver called "a cinematic blast of intricately melodic fretwork and pummeling percussion," in 2009.

http://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-scale-summit-premiere-trailer-new-album-migration

"Today, GuitarWorld.com presents the exclusive premiere of a new video by Scale The Summit.

The video is the first in-studio trailer for the band's upcoming fourth studio album, The Migration, the followup to 2011's The Collective, which Guitar World called "essential prog."

The Migration was recorded in January at North Carolina's Basement Studios with producer Jamie King (BTBAM, He Is Legend, For Today) and is expected to be released this summer. The group, which spent much of 2011 and 2012 on tour with Periphery, Fair To Midland, Cynic, The Contortionist, The Human Abstract, Protest The Hero and Trioscapes, will soon announce their first tour of 2013. Visit the band's official website for updates.

While we're on the topic, Scale The Summit bassist Mark Michell has released a new bass instructional book, Guide to Right-Hand Technique for Bass, via the band's official web store.

This instructional guide focuses around all of the various “plucking-hand” techniques and includes 16 chapters (143 pages), more than 120 unique exercises, photos, descriptive “how-to” captions and a variety of diverse exercises targeting essentially every skill level. A full-gloss front cover and spiral-bounding for easier reading also included."

Thanks!!  I first saw STS opening for Dream Theater's "Progressive Nation 2009 Tour" in Chicago, and STS were outstanding!!  Other acts on the bill included Big Elf, Zappa Plays Zappa and DT of course!

I'm looking forward to seeing the guys come to Chicago again and hope to meet them.  They really pursue a unique vision of progressive guitar-based rock music.

For some reason the pre-release listing for The Migration was pulled from Amazon MP3 store. Hopefully it gets back up there by the time the album is released. Removing the link from my previous post because it no longer works now.

Yay! The Amazon MP3 store pre-listing for The Migration is back up. Now you can do what I have been doing to tide me over until the album is actually released: listening to the preview snippets each day LOL!

The Migration is absolutely top-notch!! Music is amazing, production sounds great and those guitar tones... so good.

I've recently gotten very much into STS and I can see what the fuss was all about. The artwork is awesome too, can't forget that!
