I listen to these podcasts on a regular basis- just wondering how many of my prog-buddies also listen...

I like Carolla but have never heard his show.  The only podcast I listen to, really, is the Fantasy Focus on espn's website.  I do love the Ricky Gervais Show, though, which is just a cartoon version of the podcast.

Since I'm big on podcasts, but didn't want to create a new topic, I opted to bump this poll. I did make one before on podcasts generally, but deleted it due to a total lack of response (I get embarrassed too easily sometimes). I spend more time listening to podcasts than music. Mine is the first vote for Joe Rogan, and the first vote in the poll. I have only listened to a handful of his, though.

I regularly listen to the following:

Sam Harris' Waking Up podcast
https://www.samharris.org/podcast

"Join neuroscientist, philosopher, and best-selling author Sam Harris as he explores important and controversial questions about the human mind, society, and current events. The Waking Up podcast was selected by Apple as one of iTunes Best of 2015 and won a 2017 Webby Award for best podcast in the Science & Education category."

Very Bad Wizards
https://verybadwizards.fireside.fm/

"Very Bad Wizards is a podcast featuring a philosopher (Tamler Sommers) and a psychologist (David Pizarro), who share a love for ethics, pop culture, and cognitive science, and who have a marked inability to distinguish sacred from profane. Each podcast includes discussions of moral philosophy, recent work on moral psychology and neuroscience, and the overlap between the two."

The Adam Buxton podcast
https://soundcloud.com/adam-buxton

"Adam Buxton is a British comedian, actor and director who has appeared in films such as ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘Stardust’ and ‘Son Of Rambow’ as well as a variety of TV shows in the UK."

Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast
https://www.comedy.co.uk/podcasts/richard_herring_lst_podcast/

"RHLSTP is an award-winning series in which Richard Herring chats with some of the biggest names in comedy. Stephen Fry, Steve Coogan, Russell Brand, Sarah Millican, David Mitchell are amongst the many comedy stars to have been interviewed across the 100+ episodes."

After On podcast
https://after-on.com/podcast/

"This is a series of unhurried conversations with thinkers, founders, and scientists. It began as a complement to the novel After On, in that its first eight episodes explore science, tech, and social issues featured in the storyline. But there is no need to read After On before listening to any of these episodes."

And I've been enjoying Capital very much (one more episode to go) which is more like a radio play.
https://podtail.com/en/podcast/capital/

"An improvised comedy about a referendum that brings back capital punishment with a 51% majority. Meet the team executing an execution. Starring Adam Drake, Charlotte Ritchie, Liam Williams and Matilda Wnek. Devised by the cast, David Isaacs, Ben Rowse and Freddy Syborn."

And recently I got into the infamous My Dad Wrote a Porno, which really is very funny, but of a cringeworthy adult nature.
http://www.mydadwroteaporno.com/podcast/

"With over 90 million downloads, Hollywood fans including Elijah Wood, Daisy Ridley, Nicholas Hoult & Michael Sheen and rave reviews from the likes of Variety, The Guardian and Time Magazine, My Dad Wrote A Porno is quite simply ‘a cultural phenomenon' (The Sunday Times).

Imagine if your dad wrote a dirty book. Most people would try to ignore it - but not Jamie Morton. Instead, he decided to read it to the world in this groundbreaking comedy podcast. With the help of his best mates, James Cooper and Alice Levine, Jamie reads a chapter a week and discovers more about his father than he ever bargained for."

Others I listen to but no so regualrly are the Art of Charm, The Partially Examined Life, Philosophy Bites, and Intelligence Squared ones on acast.

I'm not too particular, but I enjoy ones on philosophy, psychology, science, sociology, politics and British humour. Podcasts have become my main form of entertainment over the last year or two. I wouldn't expect huge numbers of people into podcasts at a music forum as they may be too busy listening to music to find the time. Is anyone into any of my choices?

I would like to check out more Ricky Gervais.

Don't do many podcasts, the ones I am signed up for usually wind up not being listened to and get deleted, but one I do listen to on occasion is a prog-rock podcast called Music in Widescreen (http://www.musicinwidescreen.com/) and I think it is part of Progrock.com site.

The podcast is once a week on Sundays for about 3 hours.  Get to hear lots of bands I am not familiar with and those that I am.

^ Good suggestion for Proggers.

Indeed, no reason why one can't combine one's love of Prog and music generally with the Podcast form. I occasionally listen to musicians on podcasts, but that's more conversation than music itself. Do they chat with band members/ musicians on that http://www.musicinwidescreen.com/ as well?

What I like about podcasts generally-speaking is the long-form discussion. I listen to CBC radio, and they do have some interesting discussions, but too often just as it's getting into interesting-for-me territory (often digressions) the allotted time is up.

It would be rather nice if M@x diversified more by starting a PA Progcast (interviews, music, lists, rants...). Not only could it introduce people to new music, and people could hear from musicians they like and learn more about music, but it could give interesting insight into the minds of Prog community members. Just what are they thinking? I'd so want some of our ex-members back for that (such as Mandrake). And to take a trip into the mind of the master pwogman and come out the other end. Potential discussion topic: Is Captcha hurting Prog? Did Nostradamus predict that Close to the Edge would be top album in the PA charts, was the album predictive of the danger of a Trump win, or did Russian hackers put Close to the Edge at the top of the PA charts as a way of influencing the US election (a sort of sly Siberian khatru if you will)?

I want to start my own podcast or video channel (definitely would be something I'd do as anonymously as possible).

There is a relatively new podcast about prog rock called The Sound of Not Getting Laid. Exploring the age old question. Do women really hate prog rock?

^ Cool, will check that out (love the name).

I came across another Prog-related one on late Christmas evening as I had watched the Doctor Who Christmas special and wanted more Who-related stuff called Progtor Who:https://progtorwho.podbean.com/

And I think I neglected to mention that I listen to the http://www.radiofreeskaro.com/ podcast sometimes.

Yeah it's light entertainment, not too heady or nerdy but fun and funny.

I also like the Lexicon Valley podcast about language and WTF when Marc interviews musicians.

I'll look into those ones you mentioned. Thanks.

I've been meaning to check out the Lexicon Valley podcast. When it comes to listening to podcasts, I do like a wide variety (some serious, some for fun, and some like the crude professors from Very Bad Wizards a combination of both). Various ones I listen to would be offensive to many (love a bit of controversy).

Yeah Lex Vall is a bit academic but still fun.

TSONGL is totally not G rated, sh*t can get crude and crass at times so might be right up your street if you like that stuff.

I was tempted to quote from the Holiday Bloviation podcast, which I just listened to, by saying "Yeah man, I'm listening, this sh*t sucks, cut it out" but in honesty I really liked it. www.thesoundofnotgettinglaid.com suits me well and is bookmarked.
