2003 A Space Odyssey (Final) - Progressive Rock Music Forum

These are the top three from the two earlier polls. You guys have excellent taste i must say. I've listed them from the most votes to the least.

As a side note i realized later that i should have included John Arch's Twist Of Fate one of my favourite Prog-Metal albums but because it's under EPs i missed it. Just sayin'

Kayo Dot for me, followed very closely by The Mars Volta and King Crimson

I've been a King Crimson fan most of my life, but I still haven't been able to enjoy "The Power to Believe". I feel as if the loss of Bruford and Levin in the later years turned them into a band that didn't really feel like Crimson anymore to me. Not bad, but nothing that excites me like most Crimson albums do.

Opeth and The Mars Volta are two bands I have REPEATEDLY tried to get into, to no avail. Maybe someday. I do respect the hell out of both of them.

. That Kayo Dot album was difficult to get into but it's one of those albums that i'll never get tired of. It's just so interesting and innovative.

That's my favourite Anekdoten record too and my pick in this poll. Opeth and King Crimson are my runnerups.

Though it has to be said, 4 of the other 5 are rather good albums as well (Damnation being the odd one out).

The Power to Believe by far. I really can't get into Kayo Dot or most post rock for that matter.

A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

I don't really like The Mars Volta, though I can just sbout listen to their debut, unlike the later albums. Similarly, King Crimson do nothing for me and never have since their debut, which has not aged well. I have listened repeatedly to Choirs of the Eye and find it clever if rather dull, but inoffensive.

I do like Gravity and Opeth can do little wrong for me, though Damnation isn't quite their best.

But Riverside's offering is head and shoulders above all the others on this list.

Never understood why people considered Kayo Dot Post Rock/Metal. I mean as I understand it it's because of they like to build up over the full length of the song, or enjoy lengthy buildups in general, but it's not like Post Rock has a copyright to that idea and no other genre can use it.
