I listened to some songs off Moving Pictures this morning and I don't know if it was that or something else but suddenly I just wanted to shut out the outside world and get completely lost in the world of music, or to be more precise, the world of Pink Floyd:

Pink Floyd - Animals
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut

I'm not quite sure if I've had enough, might continue with DSOTM and WYWH this afternoon...
Leave the past to burn,
At least that's been his own

Also. Peregio is a great album. I can totally understand why you've given this multiple spins the last couple of months. :)

You nailed it, my friend! When I bought that 5 disc Tull set, I ripped the CD's for the car (which is infamous for scratching CD's very easily, hence the burned copies), and I am determined to give them more spins. `Aqualung' still doesn't do a lot for me, but I think I like `A Passion Play' much more. Longer instrumental sections, more complex arrangements, bigger sound. The sax reminds me quite a lot of Van der Graaf Generator to be honest! But....it's still Anderson's voice that rubs me the wrong way. I'll keep at it!

As for that `Perigeo' album, I have to admit it's kind of an album I lazily fall back onto when I'm feeling totally uninspired at work and can't decide what to listen to! Same goes for that Ozhuitza album too. Both are cool instrumental albums, not too involved and over the top, so they don't drive the people around me insane....as much!

Orphan Land are definitely Progressive metal and very unique at that by way of incorporating wonderful, eclectic middle eastern styles of music and instrumentation. As for the album, All is One is more mellow than pervious albums. This album features no 'growls' from Kobi Fahri except on a bit of track 6 I believe.
I also say that MABOOL is Orphan Land's strongest effort to date. Get that album!

But then again. Mabool features a far more heavier sound while growl vocals are more predominant than on All is One.
Something tells me you'll like All Is One much better. Big production on that album, but personally I was expecting more. :(

Your car is a little f**ker for doing that to your CDs. What a pain you have to go through. Probably too expensive to fix as well. I guess this will give driving and music listening some tainted enjoyability. Lol. Also. For me Aqualung is by far TULL's best album for me. I don't think you should hurt yourself any further with that. ;)

Hey Aussie,
I've read your previous posts about not clicking with Tull, so let me jump in and say I think you're looking in the right place.  Passion Play is the perfect Tull album for someone who doesn't really like Tull Wink  It's unique in their discography for many of the reasons you mention...it doesn't really sound much like any other Tull album and I share your thoughts in comparison to VDGG.  It's the darkest Tull album both musically and lyrically and I find it timeless.

If you find you like it, I'd steer you towards disk 1 of "Nightcap" as your next Tull listening project.  It's the original recordings of what was supposed to be Passion Play...originally planned as a double album, but the band had trouble with the studio (they were recording in France as tax exiles) and abandoned the recordings and started over.  Some of the themes are reused in the official release and some of the other parts are just plain twisted and great fun!

Not to worry, my friend, within the next couple of weeks, with the settlement I'll be buying a newer car. Can't wait! But to be honest, the first thing I do with any new CD's these days is burn them and only play the copy, I like to preserve the originals!

Thank you Mr King! Yes, I'm determined not to just give up on trying to like the band (They have such a status and popularity in progressive rock circles for a reason if so many others like them), so I'll stick with it! Thanks for the recomendation too!
