My good friend, I hope you're `One of the Few' who loves this album like me! It's one that seperates the men from the boys! Some people adore it, others think it's the lowest the band sunk, or that's it's simply a Waters solo album in disguise...maybe, but damn that album soars even higher everytime Gilmour solos...

Yeah I don't get all the hate for this one, it's one of the most emotional albums I own. Even thinking about some of the lyrics makes me feel so sad for him and his mom.

And how about an all-time career best vocal from Roger, John! When I first got into this album (and I mean I played it into the ground!), I used to imagine just Roger at a piano.....which is strange, because I have no idea if Roger plays piano at all! I know it's not a easier crowd-pleaser like parts of `The Wall' turned out to be, but although it's somewhat rare that I'll dig out a Floyd studio album these days (plenty of incredible boots I'm still discovering! , I'd be much more likely to play `Cut' over `The Wall'!

Yeah, it's a great album no question about it. I love it more and more with each successive listen. As another member mentioned, I never understood the dislike for the album. A Roger Waters solo album? A Pink Floyd album? Both? Who cares! It's good stuff.

Well to you, my good friend, I really don't blame you for playing this one "into the ground." . There really is a lot to be said about this album. It's not ummm....that CUT and dry. ;)
I love the strings on the album that were of course conducted by Michael Kamen, who I'm a huge fan of (RIP). It's those beautiful church bells and baritone cellos that get me every time. My favourite tracks are The post war dream, The Fletcher memorial home and my all time hilarious catch phrase 'Get your filthy hands of my desert.'
Lots of quiet And intense moments on the record as well. Overall, lets face facts. This record is the roger waters show by a long shot. Gilmore's epic guitar is quite sparse, but hell when he turns it on....you know...

Myself. I could not do this. Not in a million listens where by I'd take THE CUT over THE WALL. The Wall is just far too damn brilliant and its more a group(band effort) than the Waters laden Cut.
The Wall still gives me goose bumps. The Final cut? Not as much. :)
Still a good album, but if you really get down to it and compare it to their other works its kind of low on the totem poll.
Actually. May I say for the record that I would take A Momentary lapse of reason over The Final Cut anyday.
Gilmore's sound approach agrees with me far more than Waters's.

I've listened to this album a few times and I made a real effort to listen the whole thing. They (or Roger) invested so much in the concept and lyrics (which I don't care at all) and so little in the music. I think that even Gilmour's solos don't save this album: he plays more like a guest guitarist than a band member in terms of creativity.

Today:
Can - Ege Bamyasi
Acordo Dei Contrari - AdC
King Crimson - THRAK
Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways
Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis?

Totally agree with the sentiments.....Final Cut for me is the final Floyd album and a perfect ending to the band.  Very emotionally searing stuff yet wonderful playing.
