Le Chamadere gets so intense, it's fantastic! Rest of the album doesn't quite hold to the same standard, but it's still all good.

Soleil D'ork - it's still kinda new to me although I have it for quite some time now, the problem I'm having with it is that it's too long, the songs too, I think some of the songs would be better if shortened. But I did enjoy most of it, It's intense and dark but maybe a little too long and demanding to swallow in the beginning. And funny you should mention Sanhedrin, I've just put it on my IPhone to listen to soon. Great album! I saw an add that the band was looking for a flute player, I hope they'll get back to business very soon. Oh and Finch...  I like a few moments here and there but can't get into it, never could. When I got it I was sure it would be a winner but it turned out to be very mediocre. I know you dig that one, sorry.

Aww, killing me with the Finch hate, Sagi!  It's strange you've reacted to it so badly, because when I first started listening to the Modry Efekt `Svitanie' album, I honestly thought `This is really not much different from Finch...' I really dig that M. Ekeft one, but if it ever came down to have to choose one over the other, `Svitanie' wouldn't even get a look in from me! The Finch is a total winner for me, I've listened to it at least 50+ times over the years, and it still floors me as much now as it did then. I find little `Wow' moments every few minutes on that one! I think all of their three albums are really superb. Oh no.....Sanhedrin looking for a flute player?! That means they'll still be years away from a new album, as the flute was one of the defining lead instruments on that first album!  Thanks for your thoughts on the Top album, will have to remember to dig it out soon

But when a friend on here, Dave (Guldbamsen) gave it a great review, I came across a beautiful pristine LP of it at a record fair and decided to give it a new chance.
What can I say....now I think it's really rather good, even if it is a little schizophrenic! It's somewhat maddening, as it seems to change direction every few seconds, but there's a lovely murky dirty jazzy sound throughout I enjoy! I think I'll give it a review before too long! |
Great review Michael!  I listened to that one today and it's a very nice album, you just have to be open-minded and don't compare with their other music to appreciate it. 'Panoramania' and 'Hot-Biscuit Slim' are pretty good songs. I also listened to 'The Dragon' and 'Hypothesis' today and I prefer the second one because I don't like much the first song of 'The Dragon': I think it's very repetitive. Thanks for you kind words, Sam! I was thinking of you today because I finally got around to playing my `Syndone - Odysseas' CD, which you mentioned a few weeks back. What can I say....what a stunning Italian album, heaps of variety, very cool percussion sound, so much classical sophistication and taste, and I love the orchestral/horn sound, very much reminds me of a couple of particular classic 70's RPI works. Oh, and in addiotion to all that, you get one of the best vocals I've heard on an album all year! I also spent all day listening to the Locus Amoenus album `Clessidra' from 2013, and I'll be adding them to the site in the next couple of hours. One for the fans of the darker, dirtier, more intense and atmospheric RPI bands!
