Yep, that's it - you're not invited to my birthday party Kangaroo!
Gudrun is da bomb!!...............even if the name Gudrun sounds like a Danish milkmaid from the 1920sLOL

Sam: It's alright. When I recommend people music, I don't expect them to go through them all in one go - especially when they've just joined a teamWink
Funny how we hear things so differently though. I remember you talking about how much you enjoyed the Cosmic Ground album, which is in the same vein as Light Echoes. I think the former is ok I guess, but happen to adore the latter. I just thought of it, because they both are recent attempts at paying homage to the old school Berlin sound.

Nice pick btw Sagi with the Haikara debutThumbs Up

^ I'll have to give Light Echoes another listen, I was really tired and had an headache so I didn't pay much attention... at least I fell asleep and the headache stopped thanks to the album LOL
As for Cosmic Ground I haven't listened to it since that time we spoke about it, but now, with much more PE knowledge, I can see your point: there are so much artists inpired by TD and Schulze with very original work that a copy of them seems unecessary Ermm

It is mind boggling just how much TD & Schulze influenced PE there is out there. I don't mind actually, but it does require the artist in question to make it personal and, dare I say it, unique, in order for me to really get into it.
A few modern artists have been successful in updating the Berlin school sound imo. The aforementioned Steve Moore album, Boards of Canada's latest, Emeralds - Does it look like I'm here? and two perhaps slightly odd choices in Ulver's Messe from 2013 and Djam Karet's The Trip from the same year. -Both records wielding a different yet highly original spin on the ol Berliner.

I'll have to check those artists. Did you ever listened to Forest from Girón? That's the more recent of those I can think of, great album!

Today:
Rick Wakeman - Out There
Magma - Kohntarkosz (More accessible than the previous album, but really good as well)
Tantra - Mistérios e Maravilhas (Lowered my rating to 2 stars. It has some nice moments but others are terrible: completely detuned instruments (especially the bass guitar), the production is really bad, and too much show-off from the drummer but nothing interesting... it's strange how he ended up in the most ridiculous portuguese 80's pop band, where the drumming is much more simple Tongue)
Yezda Urfa - Boris
Progenesi - Ulisse: L'Alfiere Nero

Sam and Sagi, I have that Spock’s `X’ album on vinyl, and needless to say, it’s a DOUBLE vinyl...you’re spot on, the length problem hits again (size DOES matter! ), and it actually puts me off playing it too often as well. Last time was a few years ago for me. I remember it’s mostly pretty great though?

Sagi, glad you like that first Pierot Lunaire album, very special to me, but I have a confession, one that Sam already knows:

Pierrot Lunaire – Gudrun – I’ve come to realise now why I so rarely come back to the second one – I CANNOT STAND IT! Every time I play it, it depresses me even more. Mostly nightmarish sound-collages and a harsh unpleasant operatic wailing female vocal that drives me up the wall!! Like the soundtrack to your mind unravelling or a bad drug trip – with a few bonus lovely piano solos! Experimental, bold and daring - no doubt. But interesting more than musically satisfying for me!

Sorry, fellas...

Last few days choices:

Rush – 2112
Santana – III
Mostly Autumn – Go Well Diamond Heart
IQ – The Road of Bones
Pendragon – Pure
Glass Hammer – Ode to Echo, If, Culture of Ascent, The Inconsolable Secret
Enchant – The Great Divide
Oresund Space Collective – Entering into the Space Country
Transatlantic – S.M.P.T.e
The Flower Kings – Banks of Eden
Astrolabio – L’Isolamento dei Numero Pari
Haken – Restoration, The Mountain
Steven Wilson – The Raven that Refused to Sing
Knight Area – Hyperdrive

Freaking hilarious complaints and a nice album list too!
And just how do we feel about that new KNIGHT AREA album?

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

How's that Santana album? ... and the Haken EP?

I listened to Oresund Space Collective on a Prog radio the other day and it sounds great, what albums can you recommend?

ANY of the first several Santana band albums are worthwhile, Sam. After that third album they started becoming more adventurous when they entered the `spiritual/fusion’ phase, but those early albums are all full of great varied tracks and terrific playing!

The Haken `Restoration’ EP...seems kind of dull. I’ve played the first side several times, and the two tracks seem quite unengaging. The side-long b-side seems stronger. Will keep at it and report back.

Oresund Space Collective...You really can’t go wrong with ANY of their albums! I’m also having trouble remembering specific ones, I’ve even reviewed several of them, but they pretty much all sound good! I did recently buy a vinyl of theirs called `Organic Earthly Flotation’, but while it was still cool, that one was really very guitar heavy, which I didn’t enjoy quite as much. I would probably especially recommend a Eastern themed one called `West, Space and Love’ which is more ambient with lots of sitar, but it’s a real diversion from their usual sound. I should also mention that band-leader Scott (Dr Space) often puts up complete free concerts on the Archive website to download, and I’m currently listening to a four-plus hour show from a week ago that is very mellow! I can send you the link next time I’m on FB, it’s well worth your time downloading it, I’m finding it a perfect way to unwind on the drive home from work!

Already posted a review, Nick! It's a fine album, but they stripped back some of the prog elements. So you get a bunch of great hard rock/AOR tracks with keybaords slapped all over them and great melodies. Long story short, I wrote at the end `3 stars as a prog album, 4 stars as a great rock album'. Do you have any of their other ones? If so, you'd probably still greatly enjoy it!

Kansas – Masque
Iron Maiden – No Prayer for the Dying
Iron Butterfly – In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Enchant – The Great Divide
The Reasoning – Adverse Camber
Steve Roach – The Delicate Forever
Tangerine Dream – Miracle Mile

Mostly Autumn – The Ghost Moon Orchestra – I don’t know what it is with this band for me. I always buy and pretty much enjoy their albums, but they’re always so inconsistent, and I find the pretty female vocals so unemotional and unmoving...

I have to agree here - Gudrun is just that little bit more exciting than the debut. I'm surprised ABB finds the debut a 4 star rate - I've tried, but it just doesn't blow me out enough to gain excellent status, it does have some good parts, but Gudrun blows it out of the water. Looks like I have a lonely birthday coming up too......

Apologies mate. I forget that YOU review just about every prog genre out there. :) I know better to check, but sometimes i am a lazy prick. ;)
Anyway, I've got The Realm Of Shadows. I really like it. "A million Miles" and "Occlusion"
are just brilliant.

...kicking off the weekend.

Jethro Tull-- A passion Play X2 ( original 1973 flat EQ transfer and 24/96 LPCM 2014 Steven Wilson remix. Both are incredible and I choose no love over the other. )
Opeth--STILL LIFE ( this is probably the best Opeth album for me. Listening at 24/48 HD Stereo format doesn't hurt either. )
Subsignal-- Paraiso ( top notch prog metal album. )
YES-- Keys to Ascension ( disc 3 only. Turn of the century is done so brilliantly live on this one. A great box set overall. Michael. I know you would agree. )
Vangelis---Albedo 0.39 ( Alpha anyone?)
Unreal City- The cruelty of spring. ( my favourite 21st century RPI album right now. :)
Ayreon-- Into The Electric Castle ( the more I listen to this one the more I love it. Easily a top 3 from mr. A.L)
Symphony x-- V. The new mythology suite. ( Michael Pinella's keyboards are the best I've ever heard on a prog metal album. A masterful performance. )
NIN-- Hesitation marks ( sound quality on this album is ethereal. )
Iron Maiden-- a matter of life and death. ( cancer fighting Bruce kills on this one. ;)
How to destroy angels. S/T EP.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣
