I NEVER get rid of albums either now...I just put them back on the shelf to come back to at some point...even if that happens to be years later!

Yeah, we'll see if VdGG weaves its `magic spell' eventually for me too....

Well, as you know, Sam, I'm not exactly a big fan of Pink Floyd. I find most of their albums OK, but not too exciting, and that goes for AHM as well. The title track's quite good, but after that it goes downhill pretty quickly for me, I'm sorry to say.

Anyway, today's choices:

Elephant9 - Walk the Nile
Elephant9 with Reine Fiske - Atlantis
Motorpsycho - Still Life with Eggplant
Motorpsycho - Behind the Sun
Elephant9 with Reine Fiske - Silver Mountain (Fantastic! Another Norwegian album that's in the mix for album of the year for me. We're having a great year so far! Big smile Thumbs Up)
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
Il Balletto di Bronzo - Ys
Can - Soundtracks
Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses - Perils
Jean Louis - s/t
The Mars Volta - Live

the cow is bloody awesome. Come on, Audun! Join me in Floyd land.
I was always so surprised that most of Ze Floyd's catalog doesn't really agree with you. I would have thought an album like Saucerful Of Secrets would have really grabbed ya. But anyway, to answer your question about LEPROUS (Congregation) the guitar layering or 'up front sound' as you called is simply the classic overdub!
If there is one thing I can say about the Congregation is that I am a bit dis-pleased with how the album was mixed and mastered by Jens Bodgren. Bodgren has been pissing me off lately and his mastering abilities show an incompetence under the most revealing headphones in my case. He overlooked a few issues with microphone placement and their is quite a bit of feedback or extended noise floor during the more subtle or quieter moments of the album. The same sh*t is apparent in the new symphony X album.
Anyhow. Other than the recording hiccups I love CONGREGATION. It is innovative and extremely oh so fantastic. ;). Give it a few more spins my good friend. It will grow on you I think. The guitar interplay is just amazing in itself and I like the retro synth sounds. ;)

Last 3 days.

Fear Factory-- Genexus ( these guys don't quit. Still awesome after all these years! )
Symphony sex--Underwear    (seriously though, this album really does kill. Swan song is the best track on the album and the artwork is amazing inside the booklet. It's based on Dante's inferno.
Disturbed-- the vengeful one (EP)
Fields of the Nephilim-- fallen
Judas Priest-- point of entry
Judas Priest-- screaming for vengeance (god. What a classic. Headphones really do this album justice. )
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

A wise move. I'm just gonna hit up a retail store so I can have it right away. Don't mind paying a bit extra for thy maidens.
Lets hope we love it!!

Yeah, Nick, the Maiden may be out tomorrow, but I'm almost wanting to pop into the local store today in the hope that they might have sneakily put it out a day earlier! They did that with Floyd's 'Endless River'!

Glad you liked the Goblin Rebirth album, mate, bloody good album that one!

It made no difference, I didn't make it to the store anyway! Will hopefully pick it up tomorrow, unless my mate down here wants to make it something of a `musical rites of passage/pilgrimage' and go off together to get it, that will be the weekend then!

Mental blank - what's the FFS album?! Maybe I'm not as down with the hip prog lingo as I think I am!

What did you think of `Octavarium'? I noticed you playing on the other thread the other day and meant to dig it out again myself.

How do you like that Machine Mass Trio album? I might give that a spin tonight if it's still on my Ipod.

LOL Yeah, the musical pilgrimage is awesome Tongue

It's not Prog, although Sparks are on this site. It's a collaboration with Franz Ferdinand. They call themselves that Tongue

Half of it is listenable and the other album is good but not very special. The last track is a classic Prog epic, according to the rulebook LOL

It's quite good, it sounds like psychedelic Jazz Smile

Yeah, `Octavarium' is definitely far too long, and there was another album where they seemed determine to imitate Muse on one track (Why exactly?!)

Sam, playing the Machine Mass Trio again right now, and it's still very good, not unlike a less scuzzy sounding Soft Machine. For some reason it makes me think of some trio playing on a city street corner at 2am in the morning! But there's one bit I cannot stand on the sixth track `UFO-RA' where the synth goes completely over the top and trails off endlessly in this very cheesy way! Guess that's meant to be said UFO taking off into the skies!

I completely agree, I love some of the songs on Octavarium, but I've always found the title track to be boring. Confused
