Syndone - Odysséas
Gazua - Sobrenatural
Franz Ferdinand - Tonight
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute (This one seems easier for me to like Audun, less Post Rock, more keyboards, some acoustic guitar and I really like the trumpet. It's a bit long though Ermm I was thinking that it must sound really good on vinyl, but I saw on Discogs that those copies are really expensive Shocked)

Sam, I can NEVER make it through that Mars Volta album, as you said, waaaaaaaaay too long. I seem to get quite fed up with it by the half-way mark, even though I know there's good stuff afterwards.

But the biggest hurdle I've always had with the band are the overwrought squealing vocals, just exhausting! Instrumentally they're frequently dynamic, but I do find the band hugely self-indulgent, and they often mistake droning feedback and noise as `art'!

Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei
Henry Kaiser & Bob Bralove - Ultraviolet Licorice
Henry Kaiser & Ray Russell - The Celestial Squid

Ultraviolet Licorice combines kick-ass guitar with classical piano. The Celestial Squid combines sick Steve Vai-like guitar with Jazz saxophone. Great stuff. You never know what you're going to get with Henry Kaiser.

I feel the same as you guys about Frances, I love the first half very much but the second half just seems to go nowhere with its endless noodling. I love all their albums and I don't have a problem with their vocals to be honest but of course they are not for everyone, anyway I really tried to get into that second half since I thought man it's Volta it's gotta be good... sorry but I gave up on it.

Me today...

5uu's - Hunger's Teeth
Il Volo -Essere O Non Essere
Pierrot Lunaire - S/T
Blocco Mentale - Poa
BunChakeze - Whose Dream
Genfuoco - Dentro L'Invisibile (Man I love this album)
Gruppo D'alternativa - Ipotesi
La Seconda Genesi - TuttoDeve Finire

Now I notice it was almost an all Italian day...Smile

Michael, Sagi, you're right, I had the impression it could be much better if many minutes would be cut off, although I made it until the end more easily because I listened on background. I like the vocals though.

Also yesterday:
Steve Roach - Skeleton Keys
Equations - Hightower

Today so far:
miRthkon - Snack(s)
Wolfmother - New Crown (The sound quality and prodution are awful, even most RPI albums from the 70's sound better than this! How could they release this one after two incredibly well produced albums? Confused)
Spock's Beard - Snow

Sam, what do you think of the Steve Roach one? I'll be honest...I find it all a bit of a bore...Each piece is so repetitive and barely changes. While it's nice to see him return to the more upfront sequencer stuff, it's not a patch on many of his recent albums. All those beautiful serene subtle synth washes have been pushed so far to the back that they're often almost not even there.

I don't find Wolfmother very interesting at all (although I think they make a good `gateway' band for people being introduced to more proggy stuff), but that curse of poorer production hits a lot of Australian artists. Signed to a major label for a few albums, then dropped, and then they release a more `humble' and lo-fi album due to what they have to work with. Either that, or perhaps WM never liked sounding so slick and polished, and so wanted to dirty up their sound? I don't know....down here, WM were kind of considered too commercial and radio-friendly to be taken seriously by the snobby indie-rock listeners, and only commercial radio stations ever played their music. THey were kind of looked upon as a `fifteen minutes of fame' kind of thing. Probably not fair to dismiss them like that, but that's how it was. I don't think they have much of a fanbase left?

I'll just say I was glad when the album ended Tongue It sounded great on the first 15 minutes, but after that not so much Ermm

They were actually my gateway to my gateway to Prog: Led Zeppelin Wink I'm very fond of the first album and I used to play over it a lot, when I got my first electric guitar Smile The singer released a solo album before that last one, that doesn't sound polished but was still greatly produced and has a nice Summer vibe to it Cool I understand that sickening feeling, but they weren't very known here: I saw their only concert here, and not many people seemed to know them, they were there to see Franz Ferdinand next Tongue There are still a lot of people that like them on Facebook, and they are now in LA recording a new album, so it will probably not sound as cr@ppy as the last one, that becomes even worse when there's a track named 'Tangerine Dream' and is one of the most annoying tracks LOL It's a shame that happens to Australian artists though, they are not as lucky as ACDC, that can record the same album over and over LOL

Also yesterday:
Franz Ferdinand - Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action
Magma - 1001º Centigrades

Today so far:
Blue Oÿster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation
