Confused. I like a lot of DT's early work but look forward to a new Mastodon album much more than a new DT one. Since it is about preferences at this point, I will go with Mastodon.

Something I notice with this poll, seems like nobody voting Dream Theater has chipped in. Are they embarrassed of something?
It is James LaBrie?
Yes, I'm afraid it is to a large extent. DT are stellar musicians, write material which is pretty competent if a bit formulaic, but then spoil it with vocals that are frankly substandard.
Dream Theater by far. Never cared for Mastodon, though I've tried.
I even saw Mastodon in concert this past year on that Mastodon/Opeth tour. Mastodon were the headliners the night I saw 'em. I thought they were kind of boring, quite frankly.

James LaBrie's singing is by no means substandard IMO His voice is one of the better one's in prog metal. I think if anything his voice is more suited to symph prog; he's not a metal singer IMO.
