It's a bit early to be posting this here, with the album release date still not announced, but this band looks like being a dead cert for the site somewhere, and hardly anyone will see the post I've made in the 'Get The Word Out' forum... Embarrassed So....

Everything you need to know can be found here: http://www.soundofcontact.com/bio/, but if you'd rather read the gist of it staying right where you are...

Simon Collins’ New Band Project “Sound of Contact”

With 3 of his own albums under his belt Simon Collins, (son of Phil), decided to try something he had always wanted to do. Ever since his childhood watching and air-drumming along to his father’s band Genesis, he dreamed about having a band of his own. That new band is now here, and is called “Sound of Contact”. It features Simon Collins on vocals and drums, Dave Kerzner on keyboards, Matt Dorsey and Kelly Nordstrom each trading off duties on guitar and bass.

Their debut album is called “Dimensionaut”, a deep concept album about a dimensional time and space traveler making wild discoveries on a trek to expand the boundaries of the human experience. The album features a wide range of styles and dynamics from dark and mysterious progressive rock to nostalgic classic rock to high energy alternative to sci-fi film score-infused “space rock”. With a plethora of atmospheric instrumental segues, melodic radio-friendly vocal tracks and an 18+ minute long epic grand finale, “Dimensionaut” will offer a refreshing balance of adventurous musical styles and aims to bring back the art of the concept album to a new generation of listeners.

“Dimensionaut” will be released world-wide in 2013. It was co-produced by Simon Collins and Dave Kerzner, and mixed by Nick Davis (Genesis, XTC, It Bites) at The Warehouse in Vancouver. Nick acted as a mentor to both Simon and Dave during the process. It was later mastered by Gavin Lurssen and Rueben Cohen, of Lurssen Mastering, in 2011.

Simon Collins (Vocals, Drums, Sound Design, Co-Producer)
Dave Kerzner (Keyboards, Backing Vocals, Sound Design, Co-Producer)
Kelly Nordstrom (Guitars, Bass)
Matt Dorsey (Guitars, Bass, Backing Vocals)

Kelly Nordstrom, Simon Collins, Matt Dorsey and Dave Kerzner.

The sampler for it sounds very promising indeed:

The album features a track with guest vocals by the beautiful and amazing Hannah Stobart from Rocket Moth and Wishing Tree (with Steve Rothery of Marillion).

Simon Collins and Hannah sing together in a haunting multi-dimensional duet.

In 2012, Simon Collins and Dave Kerzner from "Sound of Contact" were guests on vocals and keys with Steve Hackett on the epic song "Supper's Ready" from Steve's "Genesis Revisited 2" album.

More news when I have it.... Embarrassed

The above news (last three posts) all combined neatly into one article on the progrockmag.com website: http://www.progrockmag.com/news/sound-of-contact-sign-with-insideout/:

"Sound Of Contact – the brainchild of Genesis icon Phil Collins’ son Simon – have signed with InsideOut and will release their debut album, Dimensionaut, on May 20.

It will follow their appearance on the label’s 20th anniversary European tour, headlined by Spock’s Beard and also featuring Beardfish.

Collins says: “I’m really excited about working with InsideOut Music and Century Media in what I feel will be a long and successful relationship between my new band and a label that truly loves music and gets what we’re doing.”

The album was created in conjunction with keyboardist and co-producer Dave Kerzner along with Matt Dorsey, Kelly Nordstrom and Hannah Stobart. It was mixed by Nick Davis. The touring lineup is Collins, Kerzner, Dorsey, John Wesley (Porcupine Tree, Fish) and Jonathan Schang (District 97).

Sound of Contact appear at the Marillion Weekend in Montreal, Canada on March 24."

And indeed it is...

Tongue

Edit: The band had this to say about the video's concept and its making: "We're excited to be premiering the music video for our single "Not Coming Down" as it is not only the first full song most people will be hearing from our debut album "Dimensionaut" but it is also a significant moment in our concept album's storyline." Says Simon Collins, co-writer/producer, vocalist and drummer for Sound of Contact: "Each of the music videos being made for our new album are like an episode in the overall story and this one reveals an event in our character's journey where he hits rock bottom from a state of spiritual poverty. He is faced with the delicate balance of life and this acts as the catalyst for the realization of who he truly is, a Dimensionaut".

Many thanks for all your work here David.

Excellent and varied album, perhaps your own team would like to run the rule over this one first? Passed to Crossover.
