I'm thinking it was Tom Sawyer if you consider that prog. That was on Rockband so that's where my first memorable exposure was with it. If not, prolly some Who material.

Probably Carry On My Wayward Son.

Either that or some Queen song.

Nope ... "The Magical Mystery Tour" for the Proto-Prog song ... No ... "Michelle". You can get so lost with those compilations.

Holy crap, what a place to start! I was already into ELP, Moody Blues, Procol Harum and Focus at that time and barely heard of Genesis, but I know my mind would have been super-blown if I'd heard Supper's Ready then.

I think, it was Rush's BU2B last year in metal radio show. After that came their whole discography and it is continuing.

OT: Why I can't vote in polls?

I very much dug semi prog's Yes's 90125 offered to an elder sister for her birthday 29 years ago ( and remain still impressed at this album ). I've listened to it in the right order, so you name the first song that's prog to your ears if any, and that's the one.

KCrimson's Islands 23 years ago. Ladies on The Road was the first one, a schoolmate discovered among his parents's old LP's and thought it was crazy and funny (he said it in a well educated South Italian – the country his parents were from – fashion  ), but didn't become a prog lover himself.

Stuff I grew up with (without choice, not all prog)... Floyd, Tull, Queen, Meat Loaf, Rocky Horror, Rodriguez, Mike Batt, and some folk stuff...
More prog came naturally later.

Nice start.Cool.

My first prog tune was "Then" by YES from "Yesterdays".  Thank god for older cousins, he had a real cool record collection when I only had one or two records.  "Then" had such a unique original sound unlike any other music I
had heard on the radio or on other records.

A few weeks later my cousin played RUSH - 2112, he thought the William Tell overture part was cool, I hated the shreaking vocals.  A few years later I saw RUSH in concert and when they played Xanadu, full version, in concert, I was hooked!

"Yeah, people are unhappy about that - but you know what, it's still Yes." - Chris Squire
