Hello all, haven't been here in an eternity !

I was wondering whether or not you guys were aware that there is a new Voivod album out, called Target Earth ?  I could'nt find it on the site and by the looks of it (have yet to listen to it), it seems to be their best album in ages.

So, what of it ?

Cheers prog-friends !!!

Wow, had no idea!
Just wikid it and looks like it released yesterday, so I guess it makes sense there's no buzz about it. Not that Voivod would get much anyway.

I thought Infini was a cool idea, homage to Piggy, but the whole using pre made riffs saved on his laptop and making songs off it....didn't really work IMO, and it was a weak album.
I'll give this a listen! Maybe it'll be better with some fresh stuff.
Unique band.

Great, it's good you added it !

I've heard four songs so far, and it is A-MA-ZING !

Reminiscent of the Dimension Hatross days with new influences thrown in for good measure... and Piggy's replacement is Dan Mongrain, from Quebec tech/death metallers Martyr, who actually picked up guitar as a kid after hearing Voivod.  He is more than a suitable replacement, he has the originality and is even more technically proficient if possible.  He teachs jazz and pop music here in Quebec, and is also the new guitar coach for the new Cirque du Soleil show on Michael Jackson, and a very in-demand session player.  Saw them live since he is on board and he nails the parts perfectly, and his songwriting is imbued with Piggy's spirit as well as his own.  Voivod fans should absolutely love it !  Try the song Mechanical Mind on youtube, it's a blast !!!

That's great news, Voivod is one of my favourite metal act.

The cover is one of the worst in history which hopefully does not give an indication to the music found inside.

There's something which saddens: if I've read the first articles right, it will be their last album, since all the materal written by Piggy had been recorded.

Had no idea another album was in the works.  Thanks for the heads-up.

oh wait are they still using pre recorded stuff by Piggy and building around it like with Infini?
Hope they did a better job.

As for the horrid cover, its part of Voivod's appeal! They have a "f**k it" attitude, like making no mistake that this is metal and its cheesy and funny and who cares

Haven't bought one since The Outer Limits, but I believe I will be getting this one.

And I like the cover.

I'll have to check it out. Longtime Voivod fan.
Wasn't too impressed with the last one, it felt empty.
As far as the cover, yup, that's a Voivod cover. LOL

Hearing from multiple sources that itsounds like something between Dimension Hattross and Nothingface, I'll definitely be checking this out. Like infocat, I haven't really followed them since The Outer Limits, although I did see them live for that particular album's tour.

It's an all new material album guys, new Guitarist Chewy (Dan Mongrain) wrote the music along with the band, no Piggy material in there.

I love the cover Smile

And from what I've read (and heard) it's new material played by a new guitarist recruited for their recent tours.
It is partially based on sketches and ideas from Piggy but everything is played and recorded from scratch, unlike the previous two.
Sounds very much like Dimension Hatross to me. Very organic, proggy and rough.
Oh, and the original bass player is back.

Oh, oh oh, and I love the cover!

Oops, my bad! Since I don't have the record, I haven't checked the credits yet.

I saw that tour as well.  One of the worst shows I've ever attended! Cry

Okay, I really am loving this album so far.
It does have a major throwback sensibility, but it feels quite fresh and reeks of everything Voivod is. Chewy has hefted the mantle honorably and, IMO, has re-energized this band. I was not much impressed with Newsted in there either, the last few albums.
This lineup is great.

Voivod was one of the first bands to get me into progressive thrash (the very first being Nevermore from Seattle in my state of Washington), so I can't wait to hear some new material by them.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, why can I not post any new topics in the forums?

I dug Sanctuary a lot more than after they became Nevermore.
