I know Omar's "Apocalypse Inside of an Orange" is very Mars Volta-y. His first album is also very interesting. Those 2 albums should be checked out for anyone new to Omar's solo stuff.

I haven't heard much of Omar's solo work, but I'm always hearing that Cryptomnesia has a very TMV sound, it even has Cedric on vocals.

Old Money is the most Volta-y of Omar's albums; it was originally supposed to be the follow up to Amputechture.

^ Great suggestion. One of the better Omar solo works.

I know the Apocalypse Inside of an Orange and although it has some good moments it didn't really grab me.

I figured that's not what this thread is for.

I wouldn't say that they're the best... but to say that they're not even anywhere close...

Anyway Back to topic

I'm quite sad they're breaking up, I've only gotten into them recently so I haven't been a huge fan forever but it's still disappointing

Saw them open up for  uhhh I can't remember ..was a good thing cause TMV played a very long set almost full length as an opener !
It was the first time I saw them and really was quite impressive live.

As for the 'they're the best  / not the best' etc.
If you like them great If you don't good. But there is no 'Best Prog rock band ever '
You either love or like them or say ya don't, simple as that.

At least we had the together for many years to enjoy their music.
