Thing is while not ideal...I don't mind the season being over per se.
Hell often these races are snooze fests in terms of up front but its the overall racing that matters.
That said, after a great start things seem to have settled and the overall racing has just gotten a bit bleh for me. Shame

Not sure why people are already writing off next year, the technical changes to both car and engine are so big that makes predictions useless.

Yeah aren't those engineers just the worst?
No matter how hard the FIA tries, and granted they had some success recently, the smart engineers always win in the end.
It actually used to fascinate me, every year after the new round of changes to see how the cars would stand up and sure enough, almost always there was little change at all (and often cars were even more stable!)

Calendar for next year, longest ever at 22 races, and look, New Jersey! I think engines will be a real struggle for next year as they're only allowed 5 "power units" per car (A power unit is the engine, turbo, motor generator, kinetic energy recovery system and heat energy recovery system and, I think, the ECU which is common part from McLaren. So 5 of each but you don't have to run the exact same 5 system unis together all the time).

2014 F1 calendar:

16 March Grand Prix of Australia
30 March Grand Prix of Malaysia
06 April Grand Prix of Bahrain
20 April Grand Prix of China
27 April Grand Prix of Korea (provisional)
11 May Grand Prix of Spain
25 May Grand Prix of Monaco
01 June Grand Prix of America, New Jersey (provisional*)
08 June Grand Prix of Canada
22 June Grand Prix of Austria
06 July Grand Prix of Great Britain
20 July Grand Prix of Germany (Hockenheim)
27 July Grand Prix of Hungary
24 August Grand Prix of Belgium
07 September Grand Prix of Italy
21 September Grand Prix of Singapore
05 October Grand Prix of Russia (Sochi)
12 October Grand Prix of Japan
26 October Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi
09 November Grand Prix of USA (Austin)
16 November Grand Prix of Mexico (provisional*)
30 November Grand Prix of Brazil

* Subject to circuit approval

India's gone already?

And why is Korea provisional?

But cool.

There was a provisional calendar released at Monza that didn't have NJ on but they made their scheduled payment by the 20th so I've got to say it's looking good for them. If the track ends up looking anything like the layout we saw a year or so ago we'll have two amazing semi-street tracks back to back with Montreal.

I'm surprised Korea's still on the calendar, it's right out in the boonies and everyone hates going there. The organisers are trying to get a large fee reduction which is why it's provisional, frankly it should just be cut and put us all out of the misery.

India's looking to move to an early season slot and felt that holding two races 6 months apart wouldn't be good so are skipping next year and intend to come back in 15, though we'll see on that one as tax is a problem.

Ahh ok. That makes sense.

And I like Korea. Not top 5 by any means, but certainly better than other tracks that remain.

Add another that hopes the NJ race is a-go.

I saw the movie Rush on Wednesday.   I think that Grand Prix fans would probably enjoy it.

The problems not so much the track as the fact that it's out in the middle of nowhere with no fans and no support infrastructure. There are so few hotels nearby that the mechanics have to use "love motels"!

@rushfan, what did you think of Rush, I saw it last Sunday and thought it was excellent, it certainly captured the intensity of 76 brilliantly and Bruhl doesn't get nominated for an Oscar I'll be very surprised.

Good, because Grand Prix was brilliantly shot and the story was good enough to keep me interested for three hours.  Plus, I've been looking forward to this movie for quite a while!

EDIT:  Also saw JPM is going to Penske next year in IndyCars and Kanaan is joining Ganassi, so now I have drivers to root for in both camps.

I thought that is was a good movie from a movie standpoint.  However, I must admit ignorance when it comes to the actual 1976 Grand Prix season.  I wasn't familiar with the two main drivers or their stories prior to the movie and am not that familiar with Grand Prix racing aside from some time in the 80's when there used to be a race in Detroit (Actually I think they may have tried again in the last couple of years if I am not mistaken).  I enjoyed the action and drama of the movie however and overall thought that it was a good film.

The Indycars have since gone back to Belle Isle to race, but the U.S. just got an F1 date back last year at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

My wife and I went and saw Rush on Wednesday, and I thought it was incredible.  Even with some slight dramatization (it is a movie, afterall), the authenticity of it was fantastic.  Ron Howard definitely did his research.

Just saw the results from the first Indycar race of the weekend in Houston and I am not too pleased with the results, other than Simona finishing 2nd.  Dixon gets the win and slices Helio's point lead to 8. Angry

Dario and Sato just had absolutely massive last lap crash. Dario went feet first up into the fence. Here's hoping he is okay.

Kyle's wrecked in the Cup race at Kansas and Helio has lost the points lead massively.  Horrible day.
