Haken recently announced that they have signed with Inside Out, and that their 3rd album will be released soon, hopefully in the next few months.

Full article is here: http://www.insideoutmusic.com/newsdetailed.aspx?IdNews=12404&IdCompany=8

I can't wait to hear the album, it should be amazing if it's of the quality of their other albums Big smile

Very excited as well. The only problem with their first two albums I have is that I don't know which one I love more.
There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

I love these guys - hope the album is as complex, heavy and melodic as the others

You will absolutely love them. They're in the vein of Octavarium-era DT/Symphony X. The vocalist is absolutely brilliant! Their two full lengths (Aquarius and Visions) are concept albums about mermaids/sea monsters and a psychic who can predict death, respectively. They sound cheesy, and to be honest they can be. But they do it with such finesse and talent that you won't notice. Enjoy!
I consider drone metal to be progressive...

Sounding cheesy is not a good selling pitch but I see what you are driving at. Thank you. I'll explore the HAKEN world.

Yes,  just the right kind of cheese that i enjoy! If Haken sound cheesy, Dream Theater have shown the way many years ago.

I did listen to Aquarius through Youtube and rather liked it... and usually I don't apreciate music as well through one listen on Youtube as oposed to puting the CD on the stereo and having repeated listenings, so I expect I would really like them. However, I still want to buy many other albums (including many prog metal ones) and haven't got there yet.

when someone has nothing more to describe some music, by the term "sh*t" is suspicious to me. If he doesn't like prog metal, why bother listen to it and even review it.

I've finally found the reason why Haken is cataloged here as Heavy Prog instead of Progressive Metal.

I've always wondered why the band is not labeled prog-metal here, but it doesn't really matter I guess.
