I've got three.
1. Doc
2. Safe
3. Trout and that's a distant third, I've had it for years and it still doesn't work for me.

BTW, my Zappa album was Bongo Fury.  If that counts as one, then bump trout to number 4.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I only know Zappa's Bongo Fury and The Lost Episodes for the Captain, and have listened to Trout Mask in the past, and I know Ice Cream For Crow the song.

I don't really count Bongo Fury as a Beefheart album, but if I did, I'd give it a low 3 on my list.

Cheers! Beer

I'm always amazed that it doesn't get more praise.

Likewise, just in this thread it's being rated as 3* and either doesnt chart or ranks very low.

Well, in my case at least (and I think the same is true for everybody else), the reason it doesn't "chart" is because I've never heard it, not because I don't think it's worthy.

I'm also fairly surprised that Shiny Beast doesn't rank nearer the top for more people here, considering it's his highest-rated album on PA.

I only have 2 LP's by the Captain - Trout Mask Replica and Mirror Man.  I have no problems lapping up Tarot Plane.......TMR is a difficult listen but still enjoyable and full of surprises.  I used to have Blue Jeans & Moonbeams but didn't think much of it.
