Topic: Kaipa with Aleena vocals Posted: February 22 2013 at 13:46 |
I have the last two Kaipa albums: Vittjar and In The Wake Of Evolution. I would like to know which other albums contain the most vocals with Aleena Gibson. I really like how she mixes in with their sound.

Notes from the Past is a good one with Aleena, as is Keyholder. Mindrevolutions and Angling Feelings weren't quite as strong as the first two, but still quite enjoyable. Note: Aleena was not a member of Kaipa during their prime period in the 70's with their Swedish language albums, but became a member with Notes from the Past. However, the original Kaipa albums, particularly Ignyt (bleh, I can't remember the Swedish title, but it translates as nothing new under the sun), was quite excellent and is my favorite Kaipa album.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

The first three albums are very hard to find. At least at a reasonable price.

Ah, I got them back in 2005 or so, I think, when Inside Out had all three albums together with a live album and some early demos as a box set. I think that's long out of print though.

Thanks for the insight. I recently discovered them on PA due to the Flower Kings connection. I know these two albums do not have Roine Stolt, but they are quite good and I appreciate the variety.

The first three all have Roine, as do Notes from the Past, Keyholder and Mindrevolutions.

Aleena is hardly on Note From the Past. When she is, she's just background. No lead vocals.

I was under the impression that Roine is no longer with Kaipa?

Personally, I think Angling Feelings (the first one without Roine) has the Aleena at her best. Although this may be a case of quantity over quality. I think she only does 2 songs on notes from the past.

There's a ton of great moments over all of the `modern' Kaipa albums, and although I think she occasionally oversings, Aleena brings a very energetic, lively and distinctive spark to their albums! I think she also improves with each new release, knowing when to tone things down a bit :) This thread reminded me that I've hardly given their most recent album a spin yet, so I'm off to dig out my LP/CD set!

Roine was on the first three Kaipa albums (Kaipa, Nothing New Under the Sun - translation, not the actual title, and Solo) in the 70's and was also on the first three albums of the reformed Kaipa.

Jeff, I wouldn't think so just yet, `Vittjar' was only a few months ago, so probably no need for a new one right away! Have you heard it yourself yet? It's got a very fascinating blend of....well, folk and almost metal in many parts, very unique and interesting for them!

Yes, I have it and love it. I just picked up Angling Feelings last night as well, and really enjoy it. I guess I am buying their catalog backwards. If they use Aleena as lead vocalist 50% of the time, they can make some really interesting prog albums where she can stand out. Most groups have one lead vocalist from start to finish on every album, but variety can make for interesting stuff.

Yep! I really love it when Aleena and....Oh, man, mental blank, what's the name of the guy who does the male vocals on their new albums?! I like when they sing together, very positive and spirited! :)

You're right, he hasn't played on the last 3 albums.
