No questions, but I'd never thought I'd hear tiny Tim and tales from the topographic oceans being mentioned in the same sentence. Consider my mind blown!! Love Tales!!! It's absolutely incredible. Probably their best work. As for tiny Tim...well.....to be honest if he were alive today I'd like him to shove that tiny guitar up his ass. Lol.
Oh and is it just me or doesn't tiny Tim look like Tim burton? I think so. Lol |
That "tiny guitar" would be a ukulele and would certainly hurt no matter what you call it

Back when Tiny Tim was in his prime, he married some smokin hot model. So there was more to Tiny Tim
that meets the eye. His voice was truly horrible though. Was he the first punk artist perhaps?
Tales From Topographic is really special, YES had a lot of guts to release a double studio album with a long song
on each side, at the peak of their popularity. That is about as anti-commercial as you can get.
High the memory, indeed. The strength regains us in between our time. How can you get any cooler than that?

Hard to choose, but Going for the one is a personal favorite. The title Track is one of my top rated songs of all time.

I think many vote for Close to the Edge for what it represented at the time, but probably don't listen to it as much as their favorite Yes album in their current playlist. It was the one that really signaled a break in business as usual for a lot of people. I feel that way too, with The Yes Album just slightly more of a break from the past. I still listen to others CD's songs by Yes more, mostly individual songs from different albums than those two.
Musically speaking, there seems to be a lot of growth between each album: The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, and Tales. ELP seems the only band that has taken as many jumps per early album. But that would be an interesting poll in itself.

Though CttE and Relayer contain my favorite Yes songs (CttE and The Gates of Delirium), I find Fragile to be a more interesting album as a whole.

Yes ***1/2 (a good start but some way to go yet)
Time And A Word **** (getting better)
The Yes Album ***** (fantastic!)
Fragile **** (loses a point for some of the solo pieces)
Close To The Edge ****1/2 (near perfection - but not quite)
Tales From Topographic Oceans **** (good - but it goes on a bit)
Relayer *** (Gates of Delirium is a 5* song, I'm not keen on the others)
Going For The One ***1/2 (more consistent than Relayer)
Tormato *** (starting to lose it)
Drama ** (hmmm...)
