Topic: Long metal song? Posted: March 02 2013 at 11:07
I'm just currently getting into prog metal, and from what I've heard, there aren't as many long songs in metal as there are in other genres. The only ones I can think of are Black Rose Immortal, several songs by dream theater, crimson by edge of sanity, and Back to times of Splendour by Disillusion. Can anyone recommend me metal songs in the range of 14-30 minutes. By the way, no power metal.

If you're not afraid of a little Black/Thrash listen to "The Melody of Death Mask" by Sabbat, it's the sole track thats makes up the album "The Dwelling" and runs for approx. 60min.

In that case, why not try Venom's 'At War With Satan' - an album I used to have years ago but been out of touch with for years. I know the title cut is around 17 minutes long.

^Loved that song in high school. Before progmetal was a thing, I used to say it was an evil Yes song.
Fredrik Thordendahl "Sol Niger Within". Newer releases are broken into tracks, but its really a 47 minute long single piece.
Meshuggah's I is 21 minutes. The song Elastic is hard to add because the last 10 minutes is just a delay feedback loop. Also, Catch 33 is one continuous piece.

I really miss that band. It's sad that we can't hear Loreto sing another album. I'm still not sure why the band dried up. I know they went and played in/with other bands, but they ought to record another album with the Gritaré line-up.
Actually that Sleep song is not that good, maybe "Jerusalem" by them is better.
But much better (and longer) than Sleep is "El Mundo Frio" by Corrupted. Warning: the singing is NOT in Spanish, and the song gets MUCH louder at 10:41.
