Here's this song definition thing again. Personally the best JT song is easily "We Used To Know"...fantastic melody, brilliant singing and it brings back so many great memories.
Now the best piece of JT music to me is Minstrel In The Gallery......that middle bit and the once in a life time flute/guitar riff makes this my favourite JT music track. Sorry for being pedantic again!

^ Can you sing it, and is it shorter than an opera? If yes, then it's a song. The middle bit of Minstrel In The Gallery is a section.

I brought this up because there was a discussion topic In the proto-prog section of the forum asking what the first proto-prog song was.......and many were putting instrumentals forward. As for Minstrel in The Gallery....that's why it is isn't my favourite song as is has too much instrumental in the middle bit (sorry, section) to make it my favourite JT song. MITG is my favourite piece of Tull music (because of the middle bit)......... MITG the song (lyrics, singing and especially melody) to me is very good but not their best. Would you call A Passion Play a song? I wouldn't, but others might. |

I think Weathercock is one of the most wondrous songs ever written. Anderson at the absolute top of his game, and represents, to me, all that was great about Tull.

Narrowed it down to 'A Passion Play' or 'Minstrel in the Gallery'. While Minstrel is truly a great song, Passion Play is an epic composition.
