My name is Larree. I grew up on a wide variety of music ranging from jazz, classical, and musicals; to folk, blues, surf, soul, psychedelic, and the British invasion. I discovered progressive rock in the early seventies when it was fresh and new, and especially loved the Italian stuff. I saw Genesis do The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway at the Shrine.

I also sing and write songs, and have played in a bunch of bands that went nowhere. But damn... did I have fun? Yes I did!

I'm jealous, that must have been astonishing.

Anyways, welcome to the forumsHandshake. Have you by any chance tried out any modern prog from the 90', 00's and so on?

Welcome Larree, hope you stick around!  You seem to have a seasoned yet fresh perspective on things.  But you seem like an ok guy anyway.  Smile

I plan to take a listen to some of your old musical things too, I briefly saw your other thread.

Yeah. It was one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen to this day! Please don't hate me!

And I do admit I have a lot to learn about modern progressive rock! So I am all ears!

Hey man, welcome aboard!

You say you discovered Italian prog in the States in the early 70s.....just curious here.....were you actually able to find Italian bands in US record stores back then?   Or did you get them mail order or something?

My high school was right across the street from an independent record store, and I practically lived there. And fortunately the owner was huge on imports so I was able to listen to and buy my Italian prog right there.

I miss those days!

Wow, how much variety did he have?  Just the "big 3" or did he have a deep RPI section?  Lots of bands?

Very lucky guy you were!Big smile

Much more than just the big 3. I discovered YS by Il Balletto di Bronzo and Il Rovescio Della Medaglia's Contaminazione in that record store. Also discovered Formula 3, Il Volo (not the kids!), and Area there.

Wow! i just found this article about it. Aron's Records. This article actually brought a tear to my eye.

Wow that is impressive.....and I share your feelings about the loss of the great neighborhood indie music stores....there were several good ones in this town too at one time....the vast majority are all gone.  Just that vibe of walking into one of those old places.....the anticipation, the characters who were regulars there....

Nice, Windhawk. Dug it so much I jumped on youtube and listened to "Heavy Friends" and "The Ghost of Göran" too.  Gave you some likes.

Not my music *laughs*
But I'm in touch with Robin a bit. He's got 30 or so albums out there as a solo artist and with various band projects. If you liked this trio of tracks you have an artist you need to explore more. There's a few samples up here on PA - enjoy.

Well, thank you!  I will explore more.  And feel free to let him know you found him a fan here!
