I'm very saddened to learn that one of my favorite guitarists, Peter Banks, apparently passed away on 10 March, 2013.

This was reported on Facebook via Notes From The Edge:

RIP Peter Banks, who apparently passed away yesterday. This is what others have seen and am trying to get more details, and will add links when I get them. Am very saddened to hear this news.

Guitar Legend Peter Banks Passes – July 15, 1947 – March 8, 2013
London, UK - Best known for his innovative and unique guitar work with YES and Flash, as well as his own critically acclaimed solo albums, guitar legend Peter Banks passed away at his home in London on March 10, 2013.
---

Damn!  I have one personal note from Peter and a couple of emails....condolences to his family and friends.

Yeah, that blows @#$%. All during the same season. ... Why, god, why?!

Anyway, he may not be as much of a hotshot as Mr. Fripp, but ... the man was about concise rock-n'-roll using simpler means. Sometimes it's great to jam in his solo spots. I've noticed that there's been a lot Peter in my playing.

RIP, man. ... Jesus.

Really? Wow.

A shame he left Yes so soon. Some of his playing sounds a bit like Steve Howe; for example, the classical bit in the bridge of "Astral Traveler". I wonder how he would have developed if he had gotten a bit more to breathe during the Time And A Word sessions.

Oh well. There's still the stuff he did with Flash and The Two Sides Of Peter Banks for me to look in to.

He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

I was just posting his video with Yes the other day, and thinking how it was cool! Sad news!

The word "underappreciated" almost seems to have been invented to apply to people like Peter.  A fine guitarist, and a sad loss for the music world.
