KC, Genesis and Yes had their moments. On balance it has to be KC only because they continued to be uncomprimising, whereas the others all became more commercial.

Yes and Genesis were not that bad, but Pink Floyd is the only one out of these bands (as far as I have heard their 80s output) with an album that I would give a 4 star rating (The Final Cut).

Did Pink Floyd become more commercial than selling tens of millions of copies of Dark Side Of The Moon? (and by the start of the 1980s it had been constantly in the charts for seven years). And "Another Brick In The Wall" became a Number 1 hit single at the end of the 70s. It's a disco song with children singing - commercial enough, I think.

I don't understand that the band with the highest rated eighties record (Dinscipline that is) can get so many votes here. Aren't we a bit murmering about the departure of the majestic mellotrow vibe?

Maybe King Crimson.
Or Yes.

Obviously Crimson, none of the others released a record as great as Discipline in the 80s.

I never much cared for the more minimalistic version of KC.
ELPowell has one great track (Mars) and a load of other stuff that would be best called 'Mediocre' imo Tull - I think I purchased one album by them from the late 80's but it was not very interesting ( can't even remember what it was called) Hated 90125 apart from Leave It and Cinema. Didn't get Big Generator I actually don't own any 80's Floyd so can't judge That leaves by default Genesis who made several decent tracks in that decade (Domino , Home By The Sea ,Dodo/Lurker and few others)

Hey now, Rush was formed before King Crimson was. KC just released 5 albums before Rush really got to work ![]() |

So they weren't in their prime during those early years then. Or if they were we'll never know it, as they released no albums back then.
