Great selection of live albums. I vote for Colosseum - Live.  Rope Ladder to the Moon, baby!

Can't say I've listened to all of them, but out of those I know, Playing The Fool is my choice !

Which do you think is best?

(There seems to be no live albums released in 1969, so for that year I have substituted the live half of Ummagumma, which is a favourite of several of us)

You could add half of The Nice self titled 1969 release and have a whole 1969 live albumSmile

Two live albums that definitely should have been on one of these lists: ELP "Welcome Back My Friends..." and Caravan "Caravan and the New Symphonia". Both are awesome. Marillion's "The Thieving Magpie" is great too. And let's not forget Sinkadus' "Live at Progfest '97"
Regarding Marillion I prefer Real to Reel. The version of Forgotten Sons on that album is I think the best thing ever recorded by them.

Wrong choice for Herbie Hancock, you should should have selected "V.SO.P.".

1978 is in part 4 of the poll - but Grobschnitt are top for that year, so no Camel until 1993 (& they're leading the part 3 poll at the moment)

Mea culpa - I thought from memory it came out in 1977 as the Rain Dances tour was in that year.

I voted STRAWBS because that album has new material, making it more significant part of the discogrpahy than an ordinary live album would be.
(I'm not very big live album fan in general.)

It's not my choices, it's whatever albums happen to be top for each year at the moment.  VSOP was released in 1977, not 1968.

This just had me reaching for my vinyl copy of Pictures at an Exhibition - I was sure that was 1971.
Yes indeed, it was recorded 26 March 1971, but not released until 1972. I never realised that in all the years I've owned it.

As for the best, definitely missing Welcome back my friends, but surely the biggest omission from the list is Seconds Out.
Scores 4.26 apparently, compared to 4.52 for Playing the Fool. Not having heard Playing the Fool, I can't really comment, but Seconds Out is my favourite live album of the 70s, possibly all time.

Magma
Possibly their best overall album, too.
