VULTRESS - Heavy Prog (maybe progressive metal? there's a reasonable number of genres referenced)
VULTRESS was formed in 2009 in Valparaiso, Indiana. They describe themselves as Progressive/Experimental/Heavy Rock/Metal. Full band picture: And below, looking unbelievably metal What a lovely and wholesome bunch of young men! Influences: "Dream Theater, Rush, Protest the Hero, Coheed and Cambria, Haken, Beardfish, Between the Buried and Me, The Police, A.C.T, Gentle Giant, The Faceless, Scale the Summit and much much more." Gives a reasonably good idea of the sound. Can be heavy, but there's actually a good variety of sound I think. They've just realeased their first proper album yesterday, an ambitious 76 minute concept piece. You can listen to it in full here: http://vultress1.bandcamp.com/ or even download it for "name your own price" (including free). A quick google search reveals that they used a kickstarter campaign http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vultress/vultress-debut-album-distance-to-release-this-fall to fund it, making $1109, far exceeding their mere $500 goal! Now that's a nice story right there. Distance (2013): 1. I - A Chord From Heaven 09:29 2. II - Returned To Earth 12:51 3. III - The Path 06:37 4. The Siren's Song (Interlude) 02:29 5. IV - Reinvocation 11:37 6. V - The Siren Screams 08:26 7. VI - At The Edge 24:46 released 05 April 2013 Album Art done by Sandra Salsbury Recorded with Kyle Ludovice of Fidelity Recording Studio Mixed by Eyal Amir Produced by Vultress and Eyal Amir Mastered by Steve Fallone Distance EP (2011) 1. II - Returned To Earth 2. III - The Path 3. IV - Reinvocation 4. V - The Siren Screams (it seems this was meant to be a preview of the full album, and this release is now 'superseeded' as it were, as can be seen from their facebook page) From their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/vultress "The name Vultress was first given to various musical projects that Paul Uhrina (drums/percussion) assembled during his high school years. It was during this time that Paul met Jordan Gaboian (guitar), who shared with Paul the desire to make challenging and thought provoking music. While various band members came in and out of the Vultress picture over the next months, their preference for composing unconventional music remained. Vultress then met Anthony Capuano (vocals/keys), a passionate like-minded musician who had experience composing progressive music. Once they recruited bassist Chucho, their recipe for heavy, melodic progressive music was complete. Vultress strives to make music that truly stands out on its own while reflecting the personalities of its members. After a few tough years of dedicating massive amounts of time and effort, the band has completed composing and recording a 78 minute long debut concept album which is set to be released near Christmas 2012. They have self-released their debut EP."Distance: EP," which contains four out of six installments of the Distance saga and is available for purchase and download on the band's website (http://www.vultress.com/home.cfm) IMPORTANT NOTE- ***ALL songs of Distance currently available for public download have been completely re-recorded, remixed, and re-mastered and will be available exclusively on the full length album. The four EP tracks (II, III, IV, and V) will become "outdated" versions once Distance is released and will most likely become no longer available for public download*** We recommend that all fans of the tunes who do not possess them yet, waits for the album. But of course feel free to download them while still available." They have also shared the stage with some pretty big names, including: "-Devin Townsend Project -Animals as Leaders -Periphery -The Contortionist -Scale the Summit -The Human Abstract -No Bragging Rights -Evan Brewer (bass player of The Faceless) -Textures -Let Live -Last Chance to Reason -Dead Letter Circus -plus more and many to come!!!" Lineup is currently listed as Anthony Capuano (Vocals/Keys), Chucho (Bass), Paul Uhrina (Drums/Percussion) I'm not sure if this means Jordan Gaboian (guitar) has left, of if he just isn't a full time member or whatever... There are 4 people in all the pictures, so I'm not really sure. Edited by ScorchedFirth - April 06 2013 at 05:45 |

Many thanks for all your work on this suggestion.
Very impressive stuff - I'm going to offer it to PM first but it may well end up in Heavy like you say. Really enjoyed listening to the full-length ''Distance'' album.

Listening right now I'm most reminded of Enchant and Haken, both of which are in Heavy Prog. So...!
Just my opinion. |

And it was indeed moved from Prog Metal to Heavy Prog, where it is looking good at the moment, with both votes cast being 'yes' votes: http://progfreak.com/Vultress-156054.html?path=pa/recent. One more positive vote and the band is cleared.

Great Album Guy's! Feature slot #4 for this weeks show!
My 2 cents, I say Heavy Prog. There is much more to this disk than Metal. Edited by TheFish - June 16 2013 at 19:35 |

In fact two votes was enough, since Heavy Prog is now functioning as a three-man team...So cleared!

Well, you could try something along the lines of:
VULTRESS are a hard-hitting four-piece band based in Valparaiso, Indiana, consisting of Anthony CAPUANO (vocals, keys), Mucho CHUCHO (bass), and Paul UHRINA (drums, percussion) - aided and abetted by Jordan GABOIAN (guitar). The project can be traced back to the band members' days at High School, where drummer Paul had initiated several different projects under the name VULTRESS, and eventually met guitarist Anthony who shared his desire to make challenging and thought provoking music. Various musicians came and went over the ensuing months until a stable line up was eventually reached with the recruitment of keyboard player Anthony CAPUANO, a passionate like-minded musician who had experience composing progressive music, and bass player Mucho CHUCHO. The band released a four-track 'Distance' EP in 2011, which contained early versions of songs which were destined to become a part of their first full-length (seven track) album of the same name - an album which was eventually self-released on CD in April 2013 after a highly successful kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds. The album itself is a seventy six-minute, superbly put together concept album of the highest quality, ambitious progressive rock, which is also available as a 'name your price' digital download on bandcamp.com. ...or something like that... All other info, band picture, etc available in the o.p., but I'll happily add the album for you once the main page is completed.
