Quote Hexvessel is a psychedelic folk-rock band from Finland that was founded by Englishman Mat McNerney after he moved to Helsinki in 2009. 

Fusing late 60s and early 70s English folk/psych with Finnish nature mysticism, they play a witches brew of heavy, tripped-out atmospherics and hypnotic paeans.

Their debut album Dawnbearer, which is now considered an occult folk classic, garnered rave reviews from the media and fans alike, making it to the top of many people’s Best of 2011 lists. 

However, it was September 2012’s follow-up album, No Holier Temple, which fuses the acoustic 70s folk vibe of its predecessor into a more psychedelic, electric, doom-folk sound, that has caused a real stir in the press and earned them a much wider audience. Inspired by the progressive, spaced-out haze of bands like Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Amon Düül II, Van Der Graaf Generator, The Doors and Ultimate Spinach, whose song “Your Head Is Reeling” they cover with religious abandon, the band reaches what Metal Hammer Magazine describes as “portals” of “spirit-trafficking menace” and “moments of transcendent beauty.”

To me they sound similar to Agitated Radio Pilot and United Bible Studies. The second is on PA as prog folk

No Holier Temple fuses the acoustic 70s folk vibe of its predecessor into a more psychedelic, electric, doom-folk sound with Manzarek-like keys, screeching rhythmic Velvet Underground violins, Miles Davis trumpets and hypnotic freakouts. Weaving the uncanny songs together are the narrative vocals of Mat McNerney, who on this album has matured into the b*****d child of Burke Shelley, young Jon Anderson and Paul Simon. Inspired by the progressive, spaced-out haze of bands like Amon Düül II, Van Der Graaf Generator and Ultimate Spinach, whose song “Your Head Is Reeling” they cover with religious abandon. Their sound now expands outward from their eerie, signature, ritual-esque intros into a genre-twisting cauldron of otherworldly rock and the late-night, dreamy spoken-word of artists such as Jim Morrison (An American Prayer) and Ken Nordine.
 
 
Hmm, not sure about this one although I really enjoyed the music. Think it could see a flood of other psychedelic folk / black metal suggestions, but I'll ask the PF team to check it out.
 
Edit: Interesting to note the connection with Rosie Cunningham of Purson, another psychedelic band currently being discussed re inclusion (awaiting full album.)

I had a terrible time using the admin section today, all sorts of internal server errors, so I couldn't get the cover for the first album up.  Also, could not find credits for the albums so I just used the band members and instruments.  Feel free to update
