Oh and on a side note, I had no idea that The Mars Volta were from Texas.
Thank you for that. I'll be slapping some BBQ sauce on that fact and digest it the best I can.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

^ dear God it's Mahavishnu meets Miles. Pretty technical stuff there.
That kind of music I need headphones to really get into it cause there is a lot going on, and for me that is not a bad thing. Anyway. Cool links and the Texas video was hilarious. Love it when he reaches for the can of chili. Lol now that's Texas baby!

I'm afraid I have the same opinion of most bands reviewed on PA!  Really good prog is rare indeed, which is why I like this site - it gives me new directions to explore.

Now please excuse me, I have to put on some of that South Texas symphonic music....

I thought those guys had a 2-3 drummer line-up, or was that a temporary thing?

I was past 30 when "Ten" came out, and i still belive its a masterpiece.
There is a special energy in that album, an energy that was very needed at the point in time.
A great sound too.
Is it better or worse than the prog albums of the period ?
Well it dosent matter, in art diffrent artists are supposed to complemet each other. Not copy each other.

Same argument goes for Bee Gee's, as someone mentioned, they made some stunning POP songs, "I started a Joke" is a masterpiece in songwriting.
But they are a diffrent ballgame than King Crimson, no reason to compare.

On Sat. March 12th, 2005, they reunited for a reunion concert at a place called the Ridglea Theater, and it was filmed and presented on dvd, though it is pretty hard to locate.
Unfortunately, the original drummer and one of the guitar players are dead, now.

Oh man! That's me exactly. My brother (ten years my senior) and his pals would take over the family stereo when my folks were out for the night and play records. I'd try to blend into the background so they didn't kick me out (think Eddy, Wally, and Lumpy telling the Beav to get lost... but with pot and booze). One night they played DOA. "I remember, we were flying low and hit something in the air..." This was around '73 or '74, I was around nine years old and it scared the sh*t out of me. I've never forgotten!

As far as Texas... Just the fact that Roky Erikson and the Elevators are from there covers that state tenfold for cred...

This is quite a comprehensive article on the subject of guitarists from Texas....however, you'll only see "progressive" mentioned a couple of times.

This was interesting:

Tragically, founding member and lead guitarist "Dimebag Darrell" (Darrell Lance Abbott) was shot and killed while playing onstage with his band Damageplan on December 8, 2004.

No idea...according to my source on 6/16/74 at the Denver Coliseum Golden Earring opened, ZZ Top played next, and King Crimson was the headliner LOL
