Don Schiff is an innovator on the Chapman Stick and plays this in the band the Rocket Scientists, who are here in Symphonic and he has also done sessions with Lana Lane who is here in Crossover.  If I were to make a comparison of his music, at least on Peering Over Clouds, I would say that Tony Levin comes to mind, and he is here in Jazz Rock/Fusion.  Here is a link to his website http://www.donschiff.com/fr_home.cfm and here is one to his MySpace page.  http://www.myspace.com/donschiff1

Yeah, if he does get added to JR/F it will be on the basis of Peering Over Clouds. Timeless and Wait By The River are more mainstream releases, in fact his official site even has the former as a popular work, and on JazzMusicArchives he's listed as jazz-pop/related/crossover. All that plus the evidence of my own ears suggests Crossover here, but as Scott says above in the OP he does at times sound like Levin. On that basis I think we should pitch him to JR/F first.

Actually at JMA we tag per album, three of Schiff's albums are tagged Pop, while "Peering Over Clouds" is tagged Jazz Related Rock. Looks like everyone was hearing more or less the same thing about them.
