Does anybody know of anything that would be considered progressive dubstep? I've been exploring the territory lately and have come across a lot that I would consider bordering on progressive - but I'm looking for something more solid. A group that is willing to experiment and come up with really cool and catchy beats with enough musicianship to have substance with enough drop to start my heart again when I need it to. Big smile

Muse was coming close with Second Law although they were really just scratching the surface and were much closer to an all-around pop-rock sound. Infected Mushroom is another group that comes to mind although they already have a giant label on them saying "PSY-TRANCE!! DO NOT CONFUSE WITH DUBSTEP!!" So I won't.

I'm highly aware that there is no such subgenre on the archives and that simply posting something with the word "dubstep" in it without following that word with a slew of profanity directed at the genre is likely going to have me lynched here but I thought it was worth a shot. There are a lot of great people with great taste and open minds on the archives so I figured it wouldn't hurt.

PS - I will not respond to slander or trolling.

PPS - if you're going to post here to not fan the flames or feed the trolls.

PPPS - let the civilized, humane discussion begin Smile

PPPPS - I see you there. Troll. Stop reading this and go knock Genesis's 80s albums while chewing on a Dream Theater album and yelling at children in the front lawn playing their rap music.

The last song on Diablo Swing Orchestra's album goes through some changes in itself, the last one near the end being a weird and nicely surprising venture into Dubstep:

I dunno about this as a genre, but I do think these are at least a little progressive.

I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

The dub in dubstep used to denote a dub influence.

Hey Matt, I really liked that Skream track you posted. I'll definitely check out more as soon as possible. It was really simple, which is good.

Yeah, it's simpler than Burialesque stuff. I suppose you could say Skream is closer to what dubstep was originally and Burial is technically something like post-dubstep/future garage or whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, I'm checking a lot of his stuff out on youtube right now. It's so laid back compared to the common stuff. I'm really enjoying it actually.
