Topic: Yes Epics Posted: April 29 2013 at 17:45 |
When I was first getting into prog in the 70's, I especially loved the long epic works that would take up the whole side of a record album...and nobody filled albums released between 1972 to 1974 with fewer songs than Yes
So, which Yes side-long epic gets your vote and why?

CTTE was my 1st Yes album, but Relayer is my favorite. Comparing the tracks, Gates feels much darker and chaotic than CTTE & I also like the "Soon" resolution of Gates much better than the CTTE ending. I also think Gates is much better engineered and sounds better than CTTE (which was put together in little bits and pieces over several sessions).
Actually, I'd rank them : 1) Gates of Delirium 2) Tales 1 3) Tales 3 4) CTTE 5) Tales 2 6) Tales 4.

I like Relayer for Gates of Delirium, and I like CTTE more for the other two songs. Both are amazing though.

CttE, I guess, though Gates is awsome too. Actually, I might just as well have voted for it (by the way, both songs sound really amazing on the Symphonic Yes live album, they are a must listen). I like Revealing Science of God a lot too, but perhaps it's just a bit too patchy. And, not in this poll, I really love Awaken too, it's really hard for me to choose any of the three songs.

I chose "CTTE", although "And You and I" is my preferred epic from that album, album-side or no.

Back to the Yes epics again, eh?
I got pretty burnt out with Yes ... at this point I'd still say side 1, 3, or 4 of Tales. OK ... "Ritual" or "The Ancient" ... now I feel like voting for the latter instead of the former.

CTTE--a perfect song--powerful with a groove---Gates, Tales near perfect but Awaken is close to perfect, too. Damn they're good.

Close to the Edge or The Gates of Delirium. Today I vote for CttE.
