fair enough. The cartoon song repeats "stop the pigeon", not "catch the pigeon", but unless the guys from Genesis pop in here and tell us one way or the other I'm happy with both.

BTW Dean. I stand corrected and my memory did not serve me well. It seems it is indeed "stop the pigeon". I remember in my head "catch the pigeon" being sung so well though. I was so sure I didn't even check. So...never be sure I guess.
I STILL hear catch the pigeon being sung in my head now. But it actually makes no sense when i think of it. You'd want to stop a messenger pigeon.

Thank you very much Sir Dean!!
Match of the day could belong on the ABACAB album!! Wow. Demo sessions? Sheesh they wanted to go commercial with that one.
Sheeesh.....they could have left the stuff in the vault, so nice to have most of it on the archive set. Clearly not album material and no none of the songs would have made ABACAB Not good enough. Great to have the material anyway the OP's question....the song is about friggin Pigeons

The real problem I have with the E.P. (and my CD copy) is the cover - It has a picture taken from Maine Road - the ex-home of the filthy Manchester City - team of the (currently about to be sent down for filthy paedophilia) loathesome Stuart Hall......
See coincidences are just everywhere if you look for them.....

Surely catching a pigeon would stop it?
Yes, but it is extra effort. stopping is sufficient. (So why the nets?)

All that is explained in the lyric (Nab him, Jab him, Tab him, Grab him). Unless of course that is a metaphor for the suppression of the free exchange of ideas perpetrated by an oppressive... Nah, it's about stopping a pigeon.

Ah, you see nabbing and grabbing are surely the same as catching. That just proves my point.

^ Love it and the way Genesis evolved. No prog band quite like them.Maybe it was my age growing up with the band and lets face it the 80's was in retrospect and incredible but odd decade. ABACAB was bold and yes more commercial, so what
Keep it dark....
