Light Bringer's 'Genesis' album was a weird shift in the J-rock/power metal band's sound. It sounds like a complete meshing of Jpop and Dream Theater style progressive metal. Real happy melodies and virtuoso excess...rather odd, but I find it very entertaining (some of the band members are progressive rock fans, and I think the album title was more a homage to Genesis themselves than anything else). Too bad they shifted back to a more "normal" sound afterwards. |

I can see AOX, Hope, & Satanic as arguable but not Watercourse Way. I consider "Linear Dance" an amazing prog track and the rest of the instrumentals a cross between mid 70's Mahavishnu, Crimson, & Gryphon. I don't run into many people who know this album, so I'm curious, what would you classify it as?

Well....,.I have had that on vinyl since it first came out and I always thought of it as fusion....ala Mahavishnu or Return To Forever. I can see why someone might put it in a prog rock area but not me. PA has it listed as crossover prog...I would place it in jazz/rock fusion.
ps: the title track Watercourse Way sounds like Oregon to me which is definitely jazz fusion. Edited by dr wu23 - June 24 2013 at 23:30 |

'Venus And Mars' by Paul MacCartney's Wings was not strictly Prog by the rules, but it had many attributes which could clearly link it to Prog (maybe something like what one could say about Bowie's Diamond Dogs).
The fact that the title song had a reprise in the end being just one example.
