Topic: Best Genesis album outside of the "Classic Era" Posted: May 09 2013 at 21:24 |
Okay, so I defined "Classic Era" as the era in which the albums are consistently rated at 4 stars, though there may be an album/albums that are lower within the selection.

As with the Yes poll, Duke is great but it is ATTWT still gets a lot of spin time...

DUKE!!! For sure. It's the perfect blend of pop and prog. It's so beautifully crafted. A lot of people don't realize how much work was put into that album. It's quite technical actually. Even the drums on TURN IT ON AGAIN have some crazy odd metering on it. Phil is a master!!!

Duke, easily. The rest are quite bad.

"Genesis" by far, I believe there's only one weak track on the album... I think everyone can guess which one that is.

ATTWT. I can't stand most of We Can't Dance. I actually prefer Calling All Stations to it.

I voted 'And Then There were Three' - but a tough call between that and 'Duke'.

Nice series of polls, these outside the classic era polls. I vote for ATTWT. Still a sensational album.

ATTWT, definitely. Duke is good, but ATTWT got me into prog in the first place. The rest, meh! I stopped buying after Abacab, although a friend gave me Inivisible Touch for my birthday. Some nice touches there (they diid a great live version of "The Brazilian" when I saw them at Wembley c. 1988), but not enough there to make me want to sit down and listen to the whole album.

Duke - it's a solid 3* album. Only ATTWT gets that many and only just.

And then There Were three, with honorable mention to the self-titled album with Illegal Alien on it.
