I went with ATTWT...ya it has "Follow You Follow Me" and "Say It's Alright Joe" which suck, but I really like the rest.  "Duke" and "Abacab" have 2 or 3 songs each that I like, but wouldn't mind if I never heard any of the others again.

Duke. The only one here that I don't enjoy is "We Can't Dance"
I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

I started at ATTWT and worked backwards. When I got to The Lamb there was no way to go forward, so Duke was useless to me.

And Then There Three v Duke for me.

I voted for the former for two reasons. Overall some of the best songs they wrote and for the 'wall of sound' production which defined Genesis when I was growing up. However I'm not surprised in the least to see Duke winning the poll. That was more a 'prog album' and Collins is absolutely flying on Dukes Travels and Dukes End. If they could have avoided a few of those 'lazy' ballads on side 2 then I would love it to death.

The love for Duke here really surprises me.  I got it when it first came out.
The lyrics to me highlight what I don't like about Genesis: ambivalent messages
that don't seem to resolve into anything very positive, or to me, meaningful.

When you compare all the major prog bands, I think Genesis always comes
out last when it comes to lyrics.  Except, there are some real gems in there, too.
When they are very good, they kind of aim at beauty, as in the early days,
or courage.

Think of the conviction of ELP and Yes, and then the murkiness of so
much of Genesis's lyrics, I guess one can get my point.

At least ATTWT has great power in the lyrics.  It also is much, much more
sonically interesting.  There is really nothing of interest to me in the music
of Duke.

I actually found the lyrics to Please Don't Ask very moving and like all the Genesis albums lyrically with the exception of LLDOB which I find a little too obscure, So that makes me different to you I guess. Also is there anyone out there with a good thing to say about We Can't Dance, or I am the only one who likes this album?

I like it, it definitely has it's good moments(Fading Lights, Driving The Last Spike). Jesus He Knows Me is pretty great for being a pop single in what one could only call the worst period of pop music(mid 80s-early 90s).

It still doesn't stand up to Duke though. It's just way too brilliant. Some really incredibly touching moments on the album, especially the further you go in.

Duke is definitely the best in my opinion. It was a really good mix of the old prog flavor that they were about to abandon entirely (if they hadn't done so already), and the pop sound that they were diving headlong into for the rest of the decade and beyond with the two 90s albums (so for the rest of their recording career really). Some really good songs and probably the best flow over all of the other post 70s albums.

Really, the list of choices runs out (for me) at side two of s/t album. It would be between ATTWT, Duke and from ABACAB and they all have their faults. I voted for And then there were three... it was the first Genesis Album I bought when it came out.

Help me I'm falling!
