I agree with you about autographs, but when I saw Robert Fripp on the 1979 Frippertronics tour at my local Tower Records, you only got to meet him if you got in the autograph line with a copy of Exposure...not a King Crimson album...RF was very specific, it had to be a copy of Exposure  . I actually went through the line twice. First time I got the autograph and spoke with him for a couple minutes. Second time, the drummer I was playing with came through the line with me and I mentioned to RF that I was a bass player, my friend was a drummer, and our practice space was only a couple miles away...and if he wasn't doing anything after the Tower Records appearance would he like to play? He politely turned me down...but, hey...at least I tried!
He probably decided my 18 year old bass playing self and drummer friend weren't a "small, mobile, intelligent unit" or something 
Oh ya, I also remember someone bringing a Chapman Stick to the demo and asking RF to sign it and he refused. What a day!

Great story man  I guess Fripp is getting more mellow over time. I can't imagine seeing his old self in that new tv program he appeared in....

That sounds like Fripp, only agreeing to sign copies of his current album. . I'd like to see what he'd do if presented with an album completely unrelated to him - say, "Fool for the City" by Foghat.

Whatdyasay to open up a bar - something like a modern Moloko Plus - and you'd be up on stage reading one liners from PA in between fiery Rare Goat shows and the rare milk explosions from the bar. Cuba would be my first pick, if we were to find any decent venue though.

In 1984 I ordered a Barking Pumpkin shirt and the screenplay "Them or Us" from Frank Zappa's new mail order business. In December of that year, I received a signed Christmas card from the man.

How dare you all have cooler stuff than me  I've got a vinyl copy of Shiny Beast by Captain Beefheart that is in a weird colour which is pretty fun. It's mostly valuable to me because I got it from this badass record store in Brussels that had Frank Zappa posters up on the wall. OH THE MEMORIES

Not much regarding prog.
For proto, I do have The Beatles' white album vinyl from Apple Records with the poster & pictures, as well as the red apple Let It Be album.
Probably not worth much yet, but Hiromi Uehara signed my three cds I own of hers (Spiral, Time Control, Voice). Very sweet in person.
Not sure if my Floyd vinyls are worth much, but I do have Piper & Saucerful in that format I bought back in my youth.
Most of my valuable vinyls money-wise are some of the more underground non-prog stuff I bought in the 80s such as Swans' 'Holy Money' and Sacrilege's 'Behind The Realms Of Madness'.

A japanese release of Rick Wakeman's No Earthly Connection.
It's an underrated album, and hard to find a copy of.
A vinyl copy of Live At Carnegie Hall by Renaissance, which i found in Hamburg not long ago (Michelle's Records).
Thick As A Brick vinyl, with the newspaper foldout.
Playing The Fool vinyl by Gentle Giant
A copy of Grandine Il Vento by Renaissance, their new album which was sent directly from the band, as a reward for the Kickstarter pledge.

The album came with a plastic mirror that you rolled up into tube that undistorted the cover to show Wakeman playing a rainbow keyboard.
