I'd say Power and the Glory is better too.

You may have the 25th anniversary edition which is horrible. I bought another remaster which was fine. Musically however I'm with you on having a preference for Octopus and Power and The Glory. I'm also enjoying Interview a lot which might be a bit underated.

EDIT - its the 35th (not 25th) that has the horrible sound

Even if I wasn't too keen on In a Glass House, W&W was the last of Genesis' perfect albums and is one of my favorites right now, so very very easily Wind and Wuthering.

In a Glass House is my favorite Gentle Giant album and also since it is down I will give it a vote.

^ Generic.....? ....well, I like Wind better but I certainly wouldn't call any GG album generic.

Really? They all sound virtually the same to me. The Power and the Glory is the best in my mind (as the least annoying), but their variety from album to album is surely elusive.

Odd, because GG is one of the few prog rock bands where I can hear a steady progression each record, despite their style being the same. I feel the way you feel in regards to GG with ELP/Tull.

Well...that's like saying Yes sounds like Yes or VDGG sounds like VDGG or The Moody Blues sound like the Moody Blues....need I go on ..? All  bands sound like themselves and generic to a large degree when you think about it.
But by far the most generic is everything by Genesis after Gabriel left.

I choose W&W in spite of "Your own Special Way" (which I, like many others, consider to be a bit of a pop blemish); I otherwise love the album and find myself repeatedly listening to it.  I also love Gentle Giant and recognize that IAGH is a great album, but it just hasn't sunk in for me to the same degree.
