Images and Words for me, Wait for Sleep/Learning to Live is one of my favorite pieces of music in existence. That album is followed closely by CTTE, Thick as a Brick, Moving Pictures, and Lateralus.

PFM comes out on top for me, but the selections from Yes, King Crimson, Magma, Tangerine Dream, and Ash Ra Tempel are also fantastic.

I could never vote against the first Ash Ra Tempel album.

This is the one where I forgot the Psyche option (WYWH it was when I made the poll). And I spelled 'Theater' wrong.
I'mma make another one, it might be slightly different.

Hmmm, this is a tricky little one.
I don't know more than half of these but the choice from those I do know is quite tough, though had Wish You Were Here been included that would have been automatic.
Rubycon gets my vote ahead of Moving Pictures and Ash Ra Tempel.

I find it a little perplexing to see Ash Ra Tempel's debut as the top Krautrock album. Yeti or Tago Mago I could understand, but maybe they only work for people into this stuff, whereas ART is more accessible? Erm.... that doesn't make sense either, but I am pretty hung-over |
Ash Ra Tempel isn't nearly my favourite krautrock album, but that doesn't make it any less good.
|
I agree on both accounts. Think I gave it 4,5 stars - but that's just numbers. Great album even if I prefer their sophomore release Join Inn, which follows the same 'structure' as the debut. One crazy rocker and a sombre and beautiful electronic piece.
|
I've never actually listened to Ash Ra. I love Krautrock, Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk, you know all that good stuff. But it's one of those genres I think I love more than I actually do. There's still a lot of ground I have to cover.
|
Definitely listen to Ash Ra Tempel's debut, Amon Duul II's first few albums as well. Excellent stuff! |
Yeah, I've got Amon Duul checked. I keep forgetting about them. They're decent though. But thanks for the rec man. I'll definitely get on that.
