I'd hoped the "new website in development, please check back later" message that's been present on their site for the past few months would herald good news and it does indeed.

As can be seen in the first posting to this new blog we have finally started the recordings of our new album!...

News here: http://www.anekdoten.se/new-album-underway/

It'll be a good year if both Anekdoten and Camel release albums (plus seeing the latter live, can't wait!).

Wow, can't believe A Time Of Day was way back in 2007. On the whole, I enjoyed the album. Musically it seemed to be veering towards more popular sounds and bits of it reminded me of The Doors. However, it was marred by having been made too loud.

It'll be interesting to hear the new album and see whether it continues from AToD or marks a bit of a return to their earlier sound(s). I just hope they declare that "The [loudness] war is over" Wink

ETA: just spotted a post from four days ago: AToD has been remastered, hopefully this has undone the damage inflicted upon the original release.

Plus cool pictures of them recording. I'd not noticed these two at first, it's weird how the front page only shows a single blog/news article.

I ljuset från min lykta
ser jag skuggan utav sorg
drömmar som har slocknat
ifrån ett liv som haft sin tid

Funny, it was just a week or so ago that someone mentioned on another thread that Anekdoten needed to get back out there with a new album.  I echo the cries of joy voiced thus far.

I was just wondering whether they were at it still or called it a day.  The projects Barker has been involved with in the meantime have been nothing less than excellent (his soundtrack work, and the improvisational 'My Brother The Wind') so I'm certain a refreshed Anekdoten will come up with quality goods (as always).  This is indeed GREAT news !!  Bring on the Mellotron Bowdown

Speaking of which, at what point did Nicklas Berg become Nicklas Barker?  Did he get married or somethin'?

Seems Martha Barker may be the woman in question ??  I think the man takes on the woman's surname in Sweden.
Same thing with Anglagard's bassist Johan Hogberg - he's now Johan Brand...........I'm no marital expert though....

After divorcing an iceberg, perhaps?

Wow, I did not know that.  Thanks for the insight.

I am not surprised by the news. I suspected they were working on a new album because their website has been facelifted lately.

I hate when you do that.LOL

In Sweden I believe it's up to the people getting married if they want to take his sur-name or hers.
I think Nicklaus was just trying to capitalize on having the same last name as Bob Barker but I can't prove that.
This is great news though and i'm sure they will follow in A Time Of Day's footsteps or maybe thay'll surprise us with a Polka album.

TongueLOL

I'd love to hear them pull off a polka album by the way. Oh yeah baby! It'd probably sound really sombre and bleak, though fast and twirly.

Seriously though, I'd love to hear them play around with different keys this time. I can just imagine a farfisa on an Anekdoten albumHeart

Wasn't there a Farfisa on 'A Time Of Day' ???  (2nd last track, from memory - kind of Canterburian in sound...)

You may be on to something Tom.
I'm just a sucker for the farfisa - been so ever since I encountered Cirrus Minor.
