Had a few breaks from PA, right now I'm waiting for some friends to pull themselves together and scoop me up for some strange dancing.
Anyway, it beats tv when you've had a few beersTongue

So I gather it's a Friday night for you - it's pretty much 8.00am Saturday right now.

There was a time when I grew to love Ankedoten even more than King Crimson.  It seems obvious that the concept of this band was to begin with the same ingredients from the KC 73-75 pantry, and then to craft new songs with them.

It is a joyful thing to hear all of the great things Anekdotn has done with this musical lexicon.  They are creative composers and skilled players, and have slowly evolved toward having their own distinctive sound.
The music also incorporates some delightful "what if's" for the informed listener, like "What if Peter Hammill had become King Crimson's vocalist?  THIS is what it would sound like!"  or "What if Ian McDonald had stayed with the band later into the 70's?"  or even "What if King Crimson had incorporated more of the Canterbury sound into what they were doing?"   While the sounds are retro, the music itself has that timeless poetic quality that makes King Crimson timeless.

Well, I suspect there will be one aspect of the forthcoming that will be a disappointment for me -- again, as was the case with A Time of Day as this trend has been a problem for a while.

The remastered version of AToD arrived today and from what I've heard so far, sadly it seems that an opportunity has been wasted and Anekdoten still don't get it. The overall tone is indeed (a little) better, with more high end and the over-prominent bass reduced in level a bit, leading to an increase in clarity most notably in the vocals and the drums.

The little improvement wasn't worth paying €12 for though as it's still all been slammed to death and is ridiculously loud. The dynamic range of most tracks has improved by one point, two are the same and one actually has lower dynamic range. Cry

I wish, in the words of one of their songs, the (loudness) war is over but it appears Anekdoten live to fight another day Ouch
I ljuset från min lykta
ser jag skuggan utav sorg
drömmar som har slocknat
ifrån ett liv som haft sin tid

Last update on their web site is from December.  They were wrapping up overdubs of the first 4 songs, after which they would start rehearsing the remaining tracks.  I guess it's taking longer than they had hoped.........
