I'm sure my prog collection is nowhere near the vastness of some of yours, but I feel mine is too big for me already. It is also not big enough at the same time and I will continue to increase it's ample bountifulness.

But yeah, it is waaaaay too big...I have a hard time deciding what to listen to when I browse through it heh.

I thought I had a pretty decent collection of classic prog until I started browsing through prograrchives and realized I was unaware of so many great bands and even prog genres. My collection is not big enough by a long shot. The only question is do I have enough time to enjoy all this great music!

A question that deserve a thread on it's own. Albeit a bit frightening

My brother just passed away about a month ago and he has about 400 cd's, mostly classic rock,  and various rock memorabilia....and I have pretty much all he has as well as my prog collection. No one in his family is interested in his music collection. I hate to just sell them to a used place but what else can one do with all that mainstream music?
I hope when I pass my son in law takes my collection since I have beeen trying to get him into prog for several years now.

I went through a "break" from music from 1991-2008. Got married, raised the kids. But then discovering the Internet and PA sent me hog-wild into music collection mode: everything I missed from the past and everything new that anyone might recommend. I'm trying very hard to figure out what it is about music that is so attractive, so consuming, so healing, so addictive.

My wife and kids ask me what'll happen to my collection when I die. The question makes me feel guilty and selfish, but then I hope (should my end not have been the result of a cataclysmic event, and the human race is still chugging along) that someone, somewhere might be curious about this ginormous collection of music from bands most people have never heard of. And that they just might listen. Same reason for my blog, my radio show, my reviews: Maybe my collection/playlists/words might 'open a door' for someone else out there.

My collection and appreciation for new music will never stop growing (despite my frequent financial limitations): I am ALWAYS interested to see/hear the result of human ingenuity and creativity.

There really is no bad art, only different opinions.

Y'know, this is cutting into my own music-listening time, but I just can't resist watching at least a couple of these.

I have a fairly large collection of classic prog LPs (around 400+), and I have experienced the same problem:  more music than time!

I am concentrating on getting copies of the best LPs of the best prog bands, generally material from 1969-1976.  Some of it I know well (Yes, ELP, Kansas, etc) but I am "discovering" many classic prog bands for the first time (Trace, Triumvirat, Curved Air, Gentle Giant, etc).

So, I generally don't buy much new prog, but occasionally make exceptions.  I am a big fan of Wobbler "Rites at Dawn", as well as some Flower Kings and Glass Hammer.

Until I can say that I have listened to what I have already bought, I'm trying to slow down and put a halt to the "buying" habit.

In any case, you may enjoy seeing my series of YouTube videos showing my prog vinyl collection.  Here's a link to my channel:  http://www.youtube.com/user/gibsona9

Thanks,
Brian

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

No.  But I was beginning to think my record collection was too big.  I have chenged my mind as I think it is purely due to a complete lack of organisation.  I will have to become more obsesive and sort them bloody well out so I can find something, instead of giving up and listening to something on Spotify instead. Pah!
Help me I'm falling!
